Malmesbury Abbey

About

"Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it" (Hebrews 13:2)

Story

For almost a thousand years, the monks at Malmesbury Abbey provided hospitality and sustenance to pilgrims and visitors. Now, Malmesbury Abbey Cafe seeks to do the same, providing hot and cold drinks, nourishing sandwiches, toasties and paninis, traditional home-made cakes and the amazing Clare's Cupcakes to townsfolk and visitors alike.
Our mission is not to make profit, but to provide for the community. The cafe welcomes all ages, especially those in pushchairs and wheelchairs. Come and enjoy the breathtaking setting of the 12th Century Benedictine Abbey, which has been a place of worship for almost 1,400 years.

Great place to visit if you are visiting Malmesbury, built in the 13th century, it was once on a much grander scale. The Abbey and garden that remains are peaceful and packed with history. The volunteers are lovely and helpful.

Beautiful place, very magical. Perfect for photo opportunities as it is located in a wonderful setting. Remarkably well kept and preserved. Definitely worth a return visit.

Intricate carvings, some sadly melting away, others still clear, and all still making a big visual impact. Not a very big church, so doesn't take very long to look around.

Wonderful little cafe inside the Abbey. Lovely cup of tea and slice of delicious lemon sponge cake ( about 5 quid for 2 teas and a slice of cake) Such nice friendly staff. Very child friendly in the Abbey, not in the slightest bit stuffy! Really enjoyed the visit.
