Needed a good hearty fish and chip supper and Maddys Chippy did the job. Ordered takeout fish and chips - the chips were prefect. The fish was flaking and battered to perfection, light and crisp. Excellent fish and chips!
We visited here on holiday this week. We took a seat in the ‘restaurant’ area which was an out dated seating area but sometimes these places are the best. We took a look at the menu a bit pricey but the smell of the fish and chips wafting down the street was delish so we didn’t mind. We took our drinks from the fridge and went to order our food at an area connecting to the fish and chip bar next door. I was served by an Middle Aged lady with black frizzy hair who snatched the drinks off me and said how have you got in there?? Well the door was open along with the open sign showing, lights on so why would I think it was closed? She went on to say there’s nobody in there to serve you, I said I didn’t mind grabbing the food if she’d just give me a shout when it was ready? 2 adults 1 child She said she couldn’t do that her boss would kill her so “I’ll just have to come round won’t I” considering there were 3 members of staff in the shop who were cringing about what she was saying and 0 customers I didn’t think it would have been a problem, but it obviously was. I did try and say we didn’t mind sitting on our own and if we needed anything I’d just ask, I was shot down. At that point we decided to eat somewhere else! Luckily a 20 second walk away there is a weather spoons that serve beautiful food at half the price, clean up to date decor and friendly staff. If I could give this place 0 stars I would, it’s a shame we couldn’t try the food but the woman’s attitude was terrible & made us feel massively uncomfortable. Looking at the reviews it seems I’m not the only one who think staffing is a problem.
BEST EVER FISH AND CHIPS Myself and the Mrs popped into Maddys off the cuff Lovely little place great wine but The Fish and Chips were the best we have ever tasted. Fresh white Cod and Perfect chips we didn't really think you get this quality anymore Great cold glass of Savignon to wash down Excellent We live in Worcester and just wish we could get that quality up here Well done Guys Lovely Staff also
This was the cheese burger I got, £5, burger had been cooked a while and was dry, two slices of rubbery cheese and no salad, the bun was very dry and fell to pieces when I picked it up.
Nice, typical seaside fish and chips plaice, haha. Service was quick, social distancing measures in effect. Good menu and generous portions, though plaice was undercooked and oily. Overall good experience nonetheless. High chair also provided, sanitised
Not sure what is going on with Maddies, I always come here for my fish supper, however, the last three times has been really bad. I know the father wants to sell on but the family has now taken it over but the quality has really dropped, come on guys sort it out or I won't come back, instead I'll use AN other.
By far the best fish and chips in Ilfracombe, fish is lightly battered and it’s a cute little eating hole. Staff are friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend
YES I am back again Too long time. Having Classic Fish and Chips with Bake Beans and a little salad. Eat the salad first then put Beans on my Chips. It's the way I like them. The service was friendly and quick and later asked if everything was OK. Yes there's gossip but it is one of your Local Best Fish and Chip Restaurant.
Visited when on holiday had fish and chips. Some chips were undercooked. Fish was also soggy and very greasy. Overall okay. Staff could do with being a little more lively and welcoming.
First class customer services. Owner has a great attitude. Its rare to meet someone these days that will go the extra mile to ensure customers are happy
