My fiancée took me here for their Polar Express themed afternoon tea as a birthday gift and absolutely loved it. I have had many afternoon teas in my time and this is up there with the best!nnThe decor was awesome and the service from start to end was fantastic. Very polite and we didn't wait long for every course the place was fully booked so very busy!.nnThe sandwiches were lovely but I enjoyed the buttery plain scone the most! Then the desserts came out... wow... what a selection! Really enjoyed them all and was so impressed.nnAlthough it is quite expensive for his afternoon tea and the experience, I think you do get your monies worth due to the themes they provide every couple of months, great customer service, fantastic presentation of food, and most importantly, the food tastes great and the black tea... I had 4 cups of it!.nnI'm coming back in February for the Pirates of the Caribbean themed afternoon tea to celebrate my Mums birthday, so looking forward to seeing you guys again. Bravo!
Hands down one of the best afternoon teas we have ever been too! We went to the Polar Express themed one and will be going back in February for the next theme!nEverything was curated in every single detail: from the decor, to the staff's clothing, to the menus and cakes. An absolute gem.nThe staff was so attentive and professional and the food was so good!!n100% recommend!
Me, my mum, auntie, sister and niece who is 3 years old went to the Snow White themed tea for a girls day out. It was absolutely amazing. The decoration was beautiful, the food was delicious and my niece had a wonderful time. Can’t wait to come again and try a new theme.
We booked the Paddington Afternoon Tea for an anniversary pressie for my partner.nnThe whole point of a Mad Dogs's tea is that they go to great trouble decorating the room in appropriate style, and I know from a previous visit, that they do a really good job. We paid £55/head, for what was a pretty average tea the kind that most small hotels/cake shops would match at around £25/head. This is fine, as the whole point is the themed experience. What is the best hotel in the Southend area - The Roslin - charges £35 for a really excellent afternoon tea.nnWe were in what is basically a corridor, off of the themed main rooms, and away from any Paddington material. We expressed our extreme unhappiness at this, firstly to the waitress, then eventually to the owner. They were fully booked, so it was impossible to move us, but the central issue is that in my view they shouldn't use that area at all for a THEMED experience - given you are totally isolated from all of it. To do so, is pure profit at any cost to customer service.nnMad Dogs uses the Open Table booking platform. Our booking was made on 31 Dec, so around 5 weeks in advance. I was told that the Open Table system automatically allocates the actual tables, BUT it was also suggested that some customers actually request an isolated/private table like ours. To be honest, I find this hard to believe it's like suggesting that you go to the theatre and ask for a restricted view seat, and then suggest you pay full price: also if the system allocates tables, how can the restaurant control/meet such a request.nnThe owner made us the offer of a free return visit, which we declined - the whole point was a special ANNIVERSARY visit. On returning home, I found that any money paid had been fully funded - I did NOT ask for this, but it does acknowledge that they know they have made a total mess of the situation.nnWe won't go back, but I would strongly suggest that before you go there, you 110% ensure you are seated in the main event area, not the corridor.
Truly magical place for an afternoon tea. Every little detail is thought about and the food is delicious. Can't wait to go again.
