Macclesfield is a great place to visit located on the ddge of the Prak District. Thereare cobbled streets and many places to explore.nnGreat transport links by rail or you could hop on the 58 bus for £3 and extend your trip to Buxton. A spectacular bus ride with panoraic views.nThere are farmers markets on the 1stof every monthwith stalls and goods to sample.
This station is basic but functional. The small terminal was under construction when I visited and, thus, inaccessible to the public. From the size, it's obvious, however, that the station is not extensive and houses just the basics. There are only two tracks that service north- and southbound trains. In the 2024/2025 statistical year, the station serviced just slightly under 1.5 million passengers. Hence, while small, it is still well used. I patronize this station when visiting local industrial customers. It works well because the facilities are walkable from the station, a nice option when time allows. The simplicity is attractive.
08/09/2021nnBorn in Macclesfield well known for its silk mills back in the daynPlenty of old listed buildings still aroundnAlot of building work going on around the town
A dated station with a heart of gold. Pumpkin Coffee on offer & pubs across the road
++ Polite and helpful ticket attendantn++ Old Millstone pub just across the road for a sit down offering fairly priced pints and food.n+ Station is small and easy to navigaten+ Relatively cleann- no ashtray outside the station for smokers.n--- Rail fare was exorbitant. Taxi would be cheaper, which for a train journey is inexcusable. You'd think modern trains burned liquid gold or something.n--- Standing room only, was jammed in the connection between coaches with four other people, two young kids and people that seemed insistent on pointlessly traveling from one coach to another during the journey. If you want a deep and personal understanding of what it might feel like to be a can of tuna this would be a plus point however.
