This fountain is located in Clyde Square, just opposite the municipal building. Abram Lyle, a local businessman and one half of Tate & Lyle, donated what was then a drinking fountain to the town. The structure is seated on a three level octagonal plinth with six Corinthian columns supporting a decorated open filigree dome. At the top of the dome a spire emerges from plant foliage with open filigree crowns and a small orb at the apex. Around the dome are the crests of 18 prominent families of Greenock.
A lovely wee part of Greenock centre, kept very clean. Some of the surrounding buildings have great architecture!
