Busy day. Popped in for quick bite to eat. Service is consistently good. Friendly staff. Nothing too much bother, even though they were rushed off their feet. Menu is fine for mid week bites. 4 due to quality of food. X3 choices for £11.35
Had a great time few drinks and food before a show at the Princess Royal theatre Great atmosphere
Having been to many Wetherspoons around the UK, this local one is familiar to me, but I haven't had food here for some time. I opted for a standard mixed grill, where the first impression was not too good. The meat content, lamb sausage, sirloin, and chicken, were all quite black and obviously scorched. As I had asked for rare steak and not cajun, it was a disappointing sight! The other meal we ordered, was a medium rare 8oz sirloin, again, clearly cooked under a very high flame see pic as it too was black all over the outside, more rare inside than med rare, which suggests the cook has little knowledge of best ways to cook steak. Another clue regarding the ability to cook steak, was the waitress, when challenged regarding the overcooked fare, stating that the cook had said that, because the steaks are so small 6oz they can't be cooked rare. I've never heard such nonsense! The 8oz steak was warm, not hot, but pretty black on the outside, as if put on a very high heat for 3 or four minutes. I did get a replacement meal, after refusing to accept the cooks excuse regarding portion sizes. The appearance of the food was definitely improved however, it was not particularly enjoyable to eat. The lamb sausages seemed to be very similar to value pork sausages, the steak was thin and dry as was the pork. The chips looked unappetising but, were quite nice, as was the mushroom. The 1/2 tomato was warm, had signs of being placed on a hot surface, but could not be described as 'cooked'! In the end I had to 'throw in the towel' and leave around 40% of my meal, as it was not entirely inedible, but I couldn't say I enjoyed much of it. I really dislike giving such negative reviews as this, but the standard of food preparation did leave a lot to be desired, however the service was very polite and efficient, even if the waitress made an attempt to excuse the performance of the kitchen. The beer was what I expected it to be, tasty and enjoyable, the rose was also perfectly fine.
Updating review to reflect the fact that prices remain so low despite the cost of living going up so rapidly everywhere else. Every time we've been we have had a decent meal and good service - and for roughly the same price as going to McDonald's!
Was a regular here for the Burgers but after going there on Thursday, seeing that they have changed the menu and the burgers for the worst, I will not be coming here again for food. Absolutely shocking the way the burgers have shrunk in size, obviously trying to cut costs but by cutting cost along with poor quality, you will lose customer's!! The tables are always stinking aswell just clean the damm thing's!!
"Just another typical 'Spoons pub" you might say, but it's the people who work, eat &drink here that make the difference : If you prefer a posher experience, then go back to Cardiff lol
A nice relaxing atmosphere, friendly staff, and lot of variety of drinks aswell as good.hreat service from staff .
Wetherspoon is wetherspoon but... Nice place, most of the dishes were not available, doors were banging. Second visit, ordered rare steak, they served a burnt. Thankfully the staff was very nice.
The pub, staff and atmosphere were very good. BUT my partner who is disabled needed to use the ground floor toilet. What a disgusting state it was in. It completely ruined our visit to this otherwise very good pub.
Typical spoons, smell the toilet before you get there. Found a phone in the toilet and handed it in to the bar, didn't get a thank you for doing so. We also went back later that evening and got a distinct impression they didn't like the English as started to talk in welsh when we approached the bar.
