I stayed in Longbenton for few months recently.  Every monrning, collecting free copy of newspaper in the station and standing on the beautiful bridge observing a middle-aged man working alone on the re-cycling plot near railway line was my favourite passtime.

Classic post-war architecture actually the very last station opened by the L.N.E.R. in January 1947 repurposed for the 21st century, this station suffers for the lack of a heated indoor waiting area and it could hardly be said the ramp on the adjoining bridge is particularly friendly for anyone in a wheelchair. Sadly, however, this is typical of stations on the Metro, whose managers could learn a great deal by visiting the Merseyrail network with its excellent facilities, permanently staffed stations and free car parks.

Trains often late, very unreliable. For reference these are the times for the 16:10 metro in one work week:nMon: 16:14, Tues: 16:12, Wed: 16:17, Thurs: 16:11, Fri: 16:11. Don't chance it when travelling by metro, get an earlier one just to be sure.
