A great place for a day out. Lots of animals. Probably advisable to follow feed time...
Reception staff were very friendly and helpful. But of course the main problem is that the site is under the Gatwick Airport flight path. Flights seemed to stop around midnight and restart bang on 6am. So it depends how good you are at ignoring that.nnOdd old fashioned approach to showers which bizarrely still need 50p coins to operate them. Would it not be easier to just make them free and add a pound or two to the daily fee?nnThe toilet and shower blocks are clean and well presented, but there are only two of them so you can find yourself potentially not particularly near either of them. And there are no lights at all on the site at night so good torches are absolutely essential.
Like to express my experience of my two day stay in the shepherds hut. 1. On arrival I was greeted with welcoming with a big smile across the receptionist or owner saying enjoy your stay. I then asked her with her blonde hair around 60 years of age or more about the wood for the wood burner, she cheerfully saying all the wood is in there I hope you have a cosy night. She said enjoy the keys are already in the door waiting for you so I travelled with my special needs son. On arrival we noticed lots of muddy puddles and pathways falling apart. Once inside the shepherds hut we noticed the inside interior and bed lining was not in prestine condition like the pictures shown on the website. The yellow towels were faded in colour, the duvet cover looked well used. Everything in there was old and dated. Come 8pm I attempted to get the wood burner firering up. To my horror all the wood that was supplied was not wood designed for the mini burner, they were thick tree branches in other words mini logs not designed for that type of burner,no axe supplied, it gets even worse. 6:30 am there’s a power surge no electricity atall yet when asking around with others they all seemed to have there electric working but me,so I can only put this down to faulty electrics so we decided to leave and not bothering to stay for the second night stay. I did attempt to contact the site manager when these problems first occurred but there was no reply. When I did manage to get through I explained the issues and the reply I got back was oh it’s a power surge without an apology. The same with the complaint about the wood burner again no apology. The only two good things I could say about this campsite 1. Is the airplanes going over and the shower block. Was not keen on coming across a bare chested permanent resident in the pouring rain hanging around the shower block very off putting so I chose to take my son elsewhere for a shower and use of toilet facilities. I would recommend this campsite gets checked out by health and safety inspectors before somebody gets electrocuted. Overall it should be closed down until it’s fully refurbished to high standards considering the high prices you have to pay to stay there yes weekend from hell. Take my advice everyone to wishing to holiday here don’t be fooled by there pristine pictures of there glamping pods and make sure you read the reviews first which I should have done
Very nice place, many green pitches for tents and caravans. Everything's clean and tidy, a lot of space for toilet & shower facilities. The owner is very kind, they reply very quickly to emails.
Absolutely beautiful site. Such friendly staff, excellent communication from booking, during our stay and up until our farewell.nFantastic showers and toilet facilities on site, immaculately clean and very modern.nPitches are a great size electric and non electric.nFamilies and dogs are welcome which is fab for us and many others too.nReally pleased with this site, most importantly the staff and have already booked to return again. Happy mum, happy family!nThank you to all.
Stayed here for 2 nights this June, we were lucky enough to have lovely weather too. We camped non electric in the hayfields which has large individual pitches, giving you privacy and plenty of space. The toilets and shower blocks were all extremely clean, and very modern. The top shower block is perfect for families and very accessible, with bathroom-like cubicles. One thing to be aware of is the location of the site, you are under flight path of Gatwick, so planes can be loud up until about 11pm and starting again from about 5:30am. Personally this was the best aspect for us as aviation lovers! The town is a 5 minute drive and has everything you need. Staff were lovely too, very helpful. We will be back, Couldn’t recommend this site enough.
