Locomotion was a wonderful surprise, it was our first visit and if honest we weren't expecting much as we hadn't looked it up in advance. To see so many trains in the huge shed was great. With information and visual demos, plus open workshop. There is a shop to buy many makes of model trains and a lovely cafe. There is also a working steam train that you can ride for a small cost. A play area is also available for children. Definitely worth a visit.

Really enjoyed it here. Will certainly be back. It looks to have a lovely play area once the weather improves. I liked it had an area with tables and chairs for you to eat your own picnic as well as having a cafe. Plenty of toilets. And the shop sold a decent amount of Hornby.

A really interesting day out, with plenty to see and do for all the family. Train sets and small rides for the kids , all the old steam trains to look at , quizzes and treasure hunts. And there's a cafe for snacks and drinks. FREE ENTRY. That's got to be good these days!!

free museum which has plenty to keep 7 and 3 year old occupied. You can look into the trains from platforms but would have been better if you could have gone on some. Kids and adults enjoyed the day would recommend for a few hours.

I visited Locomotion with family (kids of 6 and 8) in Jan 2018. Locomotion is a large warehouse style building containing the collection of railway vehicles and memorabilia. If you or your kids have a fascination with trains of various eras, this location will not leave you disappointed. However, I did feel there could have been more interaction or engagement activities on offer. Many of the interactive displays and information points were just either not working, or broken - and I think it's an opportunity missed. Cafe food is available and there is also a gift shop. Staff we did encounter were friendly and helpful; and we were visiting during 'off season'.
