What a lovely wee site. Very friendly staff. Toilets spotless. Very very quiet in the evening. Right on the edge of the town where there are plenty places to eat and drink. We will definitely be back x
Nice park plenty of ayrshire folk to talk too, £20 a nite for a tent, award winning Moores fish and chips lovely, i will be back down soon
We came across the signpost for this site on a day of our tour where we hadn't booked any sites & decided to try it. Basically this is an overpriced car park. It does not have the security of being manned 24hrs which made me nervous as it is in the middle of a public park. It had no charm or atmosphere. We were issued with a rule book upon paying which annoyed us ace have been doing this for 12yrs now. The staff didn't explain where chemical disposal was or where to dispose of or fill up on water. Facilities were okay although I used my own shower and we were not impressed with the 10am departure time for fear of not being off the site on time & getting charged another night. We are on holiday & this just caused unwanted pressure. I have given 2 stars as I like Castle Douglas & the Loch is lovely but this was my first ever time in a local authority site & it will be my last. I'll stick to the 2 leading UK club sites places.
Great stopover. All the facilities you need, albeit basic. Excellent loch side location, good for stroll around the town or loch. Toilets and showers clean but not the most powerful shower in the world. Feels like you are staying in a car park but if you are used to staying in continental aires you will feel right at home!
We did not use site but looks very compact on the hard stand carpark area but lovely area and water
Didn't stay on the park, we walk the dog around the loch on a regular basis. The caravan park is ok though on the edge of Castle Douglas 2 minutes walk to the shops in the centre. Loch good for kayaking.
Great site in a brilliant town. It’s in the middle of a public park but the locals are friendly and great for the dogs. CD is a lovely town and a great place to explore. Was worried about the local kids at the skate park but they went home at 9pmon a Saturday night. If you stay on a grass pitch, the crows are a noisy pain. Overall this is our favourite camp site so far. Will come back soon, we love it. Handy for the town so out for cracking food at the Kings Arms.
Where do I start. The loch is beautiful. Very close to the town. Easy to get to. Castle Douglas has excellent amenities. Facilities decent. Staff work hard through the day and are polite. Playground for kids. Skate park. Swans in the loch. Superb walks nearby and wonderful Threave castle and gardens and loch Ken is a short drive away, along with the Galloway Forrest. The downsides; This is run by the council and is actually on the town park. There are security barriers which close at 7pm. But during the day anyone can drive in and parkup loch side. 24hours a day there is park access for any pedestrian. So get used to having people walking past your caravan. It's a great facility for the town, and it doesn't feel unsafe. It's just that it doesn't have a great atmosphere and there is no CCTV or other security. Although allot of the pitches are seasonally booked and seem well established. Showers functional but water pressure/flow dreary. I was the only one in the shower block each time! Grass a bit long in parts. Could do with more stand pipes for drinking water. £24 for a night is a little bit expensive for what was offered. If this was cheaper it would be better rated simply as there is nothing bad about this campsite. It could be so much better. How to improve it; Fences around the camping areas so as to give a bit more security. Also some CCTV might be an option, although not everyone is a fan. Regulars here might feel it's not needed as castle Douglas is a decent town. Possibly have staff on site 24hours per day. There is even a boarded up parkkeepers house. Shame not occupied. Either drop the price of offer more facilities and give the site a more homely atmosphere. There's some lovely trees in the park as well
So close to a lovely Scottish Loch. Great overnight stay
Absolutely beautiful. Short walk into town. Wonderful welcome. Enjoyed so much we stayed longer
