Visited at 8pm, 05/03, table for two. The food was absolutely amazing. Salmon pate starter and 10oz sirloin for me, mussels and Nidderdale trout for my partner. The pate was absolutely superb actual pieces of salmon in there, too! And the steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The mussels were "the best i've ever had" and he has them a lot!, and the trout was perfect! Very fairly priced given the quality of food and generous portions! To our shame, we can't remember the names of the two wonderful waiting staff who served us the fantastic lady and gent working upstairs, where we were seated. We could not fault them. If we had our own restaurant, we'd want them to work in it, they were so good! Absolutely phenomenal. A perfect evening, will always recommend to friends and family!!
We had most amazing meal back in April and have been meaning to leave a review as both the meal & service was impeccable we really can't wait to return. Thanks again
We went there on Valentine's Day. Staffs were lovely. We love how the restaurant has got a character like a small French Bristo. The bread was amazing! Our steaks were nice, however my husband was little disappointed with his scallops. They are not queen scallops as it said in the menu but cheap quality ones.
If you like seafood then this is a must. Amazing food, lovely atmosphere with friendly staff who made some very helpful recommendations.
For a restaurant to be business for as many years as they have they must be doing something right. In fact they do just about everything right. Small and intimate, comfortable and well positioned in the town. Always a warm welcome from friendly , helpful and professional staff who know their business. This is a fish restaurant however there is steak on the menu for those not fish inclined. Prices are very reasonable, especially the lunch menu. Needless to say the food is excellent, fresh and always perfectly cooked and presented. Just recommenced our visits after Covid and found it as good as ever.
High expectations having not been for over 15 years: sadly moules although good only 6 4 empty shells, 2 shut tight : main smoked haddock; over cooked, garlic pomme= mash NB not pomme de terre , pomme so had been expecting apple. No hint or evidence of mustard grain sauce, sadly poached egg also over. Disappointed as had such high expectations of a fish restaurant but have been served better cooked in french chains. Dauphinoise potatoes were like none other : oil lots and lots of oil. No evidence of cream just garlic, oil and cheese. Never going to be a slimmers choice but not the classic creamy potatoes one expects. Not pleasant. Will not hurry to return.
Loved the oysters, but the soup and mussels were only average.Food: 3/5
Oysters were excellent. Literally everything else, I think would be considered on the verge of spoiled, certainly the crab and prawns in my wife hot mixed seafood dish. The servers have no idea what may or may not have gluten, which seemed strange considering virtually every other restaurant I have been to in the UK that is more than 50 GBP/person the servers had detailed knowledge of allergens. Meal was made further uncomfortable by horrible design, had to hear a gentleman basically scream our entire meal. I rarely complain about price in any of my many reviews, but the expense of the meal was absolutely absurd for the quality of the seafood served. I am trying not to leave 1 star reviews, but the food was horrible. Dietary restrictions: ZERO KNOWLEDGE OF ALLERGENS BY THE SERVERS
We enjoyed a delicious meal here yesterday. I had the hot shellfish bowl which was both very tasty and plentiful. The only thing I didn’t enjoy was the crab claw which had no meat in at all - just a tiny amount of dry white crumbly stuff which was inedible?? My hubby enjoyed half a lobster. The dauphinois potatoes were fabulous! Service was excellent too.
Excellent food and service, less attractive environment. We enjoyed a delightfully piquant prawn cocktail and salmon pâté for starters, followed by fish pie and smoked haddock rarebit, all very good. EQ Chardonnay complemented the food perfectly. Service was excellent throughout. The surroundings in the upstairs dining room are rather harsh and make for difficult hearing of one has a quietly spoken guest and/or noisy neighbours. A minor complaint but as the clientele were notably elderly, perhaps this is not an uncommon problem.
