I've had a long up and down relationship with the Royal since April 1st 2000. I have to say, despite this and the many many surgeries I've had there, I still feel that I can say ALL the staff are absolutely fantastic. Professional, caring, attentive, extremely knowledgeable and just so dedicated to the nature of their chosen profession. I have been so poorly sometimes, and I mean life threatening poorly. Poorly, leading to being so depressed and the nurses who have cared for me come in to see me and bring the Sunshine and their smiles. It's infectious and it's impossible to stay 'down' too long when they are so involved in every aspect of my life and getting me on the mend and ready to go back home. So yes, I endorse The Royal. A place to be if you want to get well. I recently had a skin cancer scare and from going to see my GP to seeing the specialist was 11 days. My Dad, on the other end, saw his GP in Bradford and from that first visit and subsequent referral to being seen at the Bradford Royal Infirmary was just over 5 MONTHS and by that time the pea sized tumour in his esophagus and spread to his liver and he died 3 months later. I don't know if it's a protocol for the whole of Derbyshire, but The Royal does not mess about where a possible cancer and you are seen within days. Amazing place, amazing staff. Graham Dawson
My 96yr old mum attended A and E today following a fall at home. It was wonderful to witness such a respectful service where all the staff especially the doctor took the time and effort to effectively communicate with her both to inform his assessment but most importantly make her feel at ease and feel included in the process. As a family we felt that we also were kept informed and listened to also. Thank you all.
Had to visit A&E twice recently, once with my son and a few days ago for myself. On both occasions I expected to be waiting hours, but the longest wait was just 20 minutes. I was seen by an A&E Nurse Practitioner and referred to a ward in just 15 minutes. The brilliant staff on Elizabeth ward examined, treated and discharged me within 2 hours. Outstanding care, especially when the service is under such pressure. Thank you to everyone who helped me, you're all amazing.
Grandad taken to A&E with a suspected heart attack. He was there for around 13 hours and never once saw a doctor. The nurses were good and obviously trying their best, but we were told it would be another 5 hours before the doctor would see him, so we left. GP later confirmed that he had a heart attack, just by looking at his results, so why couldn't they see that?
I live in West Yorkshire. My sister in law was admitted to Chesterfield Royal with untreatable health issues. We were at her bedside for a number of long days until she eventually passed away. The nurses and ward staff were absolutely brilliant and made her as comfortable as they could in her final days. We are forever in your debt and you are all angels
My girlfriend gave birth to our first child on Tuesday c-section and the staff were excellent also the surgeon Roberto was amazing and helped massively to calm the nerves and worries that we both had. In the end everything was fine. Absolute god send!
Awful experience thanks to Ms A Miller from the Speech department. Tried to ruin my day and others, by being extremely rude & difficult! The caretaker was more professional and more considerate than Ms Miller! I have waited months for my appointment, the parking isn’t the best, even with a blue badge! I didn’t go through all of that to then be badged by a woman thinking herself to be so high and mighty over others and to here about her five books! I went there for my appointment! Awful experience! Thanks Miller! Maybe take lessons on gratitude and caring for people rather than focusing on mere speech, because if I could only pick two words from the English dictionary for you right now, guess what they would be? Disgusting woman!
I don’t use a&e very often. The last time I went was 2018. I understand the concept of accident and emergency only. I was made to feel very upset when getting checked in. After being referred by my GP the same day to go up. I was in a lot of pain. The person checking me in was very abrupt and told me she didn’t know why the GP had told me to go there and she asked me ‘and what do they want us to do?’ At that point I just wanted to go home but I’m glad I didn’t. Thankfully I was given some treatment to help and further tests were done.
I have had excellent care whilst going to the hospital. From the ambulance staff, A&E staff to the staff on the wards. A special thank you to Mari and Niska who wizid me to Ridgeway ward from EMD. All the staff were polite, professional and most of all filled with human kindness.
The care I received in A and E when presenting with a cardiac episode was outstanding from start to finish. Sympathetic, quick caring and professional. Their patience, understanding and thoroughness were remarkable given the pressure we all know NHS staff are coping with. We should cherish our NHS and in my experience this is a wonderful hospital.
