Went here a couple of weeks ago. Was about to have an operation which meant I was on a liquid diet for 2 months, so wanted to have a really good meal... Sadly I was to be disappointed! I ordered the usually excellent burger, and my wife had the sirloin steak. She asked for her steak medium rare. I was told that my burger HAD to be cooked well done to avoid ecoli! but that was fine as I prefer my burgers like that... When the food arrived it looked great. However, the steak was well done... Only a shade pink on the inside... And my burger was almost rare! It was also extremely chewy. Gristly even. Kinda takes the cake when a restaurant tells you how you are having your meat cooked, and then gets it completely wrong. My wife insisted we didn't complain, and so we didn't. Nobody likes to have to send food back to the kitchen. However at the end of the meal the owner I believe came up and offered a discount on the steak... £3! On a £70 bill!? Honestly, it's a joke. That's really awful. The money isn't the issue though, it's the food being so poor. I wouldn't have been happy even if that was at a £10 per head restaurant. LDH used to be so much better. The previous time we went there the food was poor too, but I had hoped it was an anomaly. Clearly it wasn't. I wrote an email to the restaurant after the meal to tell them about our experience and they didn't even bother to respond. We used to be fans of this restaurant but we definitely won't be going back.
Quite a high-end place. Good selection of quality spirits and beers. Bar staff who know a decent drink. Suspect the food would be good - but we didn't try it. Attentive barman. Bar area quiet when we visited on a lazy sunday afternoon, but that made it a relaxing and intimate place to spend an hour with a laptop on comfy sofas. Imagine it gets a lot busier in the evenings. Restaurant upstairs looked inviting.
Food delicious, staff very friendly although rather pushy. BUT it was only when we got home and looked at the bill that we became annoyed. We had olives and bread gently forced on us, I can't eat either, but they didn’t tell you they charge £4.50 for a dozen olives and £1.50 for 6 slices of French bread. £6.00 for something I can’t eat and which we didn’t eat is a bit steep. My husband ordered a Campari and soda and they brought out Cointreau and soda and when he questioned them they were quite snooty saying it is always clear, they then realised their mistake and gave him a proper Campari but it still looked a bit anaemic. Why because they only gave him a single when a proper Campari is a double which brings me on to the really appalling and extremely irresponsible behaviour and the reason I am writing this negative review. I ordered a gin and tonic, I was told the local gin house Silent Pools did a fantastic gin and I should try it, so I did. What they didn’t tell me was that they had served me a double gin and I had two. I wasn’t asked if I was driving. In this day and age if find that absolutely disgraceful that you would do that to your customers. To add insult to injury I was charged £19.00 for my gin order. They charge £4.70 for a bottle of tonic water that I can buy retail for £1.00 a bottle and £4.80 for my double which equates to £67.20 for a bottle, which I can buy direct from the gin house for £39.95 so wholesale I would imagine is a little less. So now I am feeling really cheated. I realise you need to make a profit but I bet you don’t pay your staff top wages so you really are ripping you customer off. The bill, including their service charge of 12.5% when did the tipping go up from 10% to 12.5% and why don’t I get to decide how much anymore wasn’t exactly horrendous at £214.26 for four people 4 starters, 4 mains and 2 desserts plus pre dinner drinks and wine with the meal I am not upset about the price as such, I am upset because I feel that we were conned and no one likes to think they have been conned. If you are pitching yourselves as high end restaurant with high end prices bread and olives should be included, you should know the difference between Campari and Cointreau and most importantly if you are serving alcohol to your customers you should make it VERY clear the quantity you are serving and not assume that you can serve what you want. It is dangerous it is irresponsible and frankly you are out of order. So for that I will never eat at this restaurant again and I shall make sure all my friends know what a sneaky, dishonest establishment you are. Such a shame because the food really was good.
I have always wanted to go here having driven past many times and thought how nice it looked. However we received such an unfriendly reception this morning when we went in for coffee, the barista / waiter did not look very happy on any occasion when he came out or when we paid. His colleague was even more glum and we could hear the kitchen staff "effin and jeffin" from the bar area. Loos were basic, not clean and no loo roll to be seen! I can't imagine they are doing that well.....?
Looked forward to trying it out . Very disappointed my friend had 1/2 a roast chicken it was still bloody in the crease .Sent it back the waiter brought it straight back said the chef said " It was fine and ok to eat" my friend picked around the edges . Apparently he said they cook the chickens for 2 hrs finished asked for the bill I had to ask to have the chicken removed of the bill . We went and spoke to the manager about our experience she offered us 10 % off our next meal . We wont be taking her up on this as from that standard of professionalism from a so called top Restaurant . Ater seeing the local headlines this week , maybe the local EHO would like to inspection Their Food safety Systems .......
Went last night had a fabulous meal and great staff, the waitress we had was very attentive, will definitely go again, only thing I would say it would be nice to have the food on a china plate instead of a piece of wood
