One star because zero is not an acceptable review. There were very few people in the cafe at 9.45am. We were quickly shown to a table and our order placed. Two more families came in after and received their drinks before us. When we raised this, our waiting staff blamed a colleague. Our food still took some time to come and was incorrect. When this was pointed out we were told that they had had a "change of chef and he wasn't quite awake yet!" The food was lukewarm at best. Over priced, rubbish service. Unfortunately, having travelled since 6.45am we were quite hungry at this time and were unsure when the next opportunity to eat would occur. However, I do hope that the Little Chef chain take note of all these reviews and do something immediately and radically to improve this venue.
I though as I was on my way home from a family holiday that I would pull into this little chef for lunch and reminisce about fond memories I had as a child about stopping of at a little chef and having nice food, great pancakes with fruit and ice cream and brilliant service. How wrong was I. My family and me was met by the most miserable waitress on this planet. Every thing would take half hour and she constantly moaned how busy they were even tho there was about a dozen people in the place. They was that busy she even had time to talk for 10 minutes to a fellow co worker. I think it would hurt he to smile. She took our order and when the food arrived well it was edible but not the best. I would advise anyone to drive on and find other eating establishments before eating at this place. Not even worthy of photos. I had to give this one star otherwise I couldn't post anything. I wouldn't give it one star.
Seems like kids running the place. Had to wait ten minutes to be seated even though the place was nearly empty. They forgot our cutlery... Twice! Food was OK however I had bread and butter with my food but they forgot the butter. The fish was over cooked and the batter was hard which cut my mouth trying to eat it. Place was very dirty, dirty tables / floors. Didn't replenish the sugars / sauces. When we asked for some they just told us to find some off other tables. Staff just stood around and leaving empty tables full of mess empty plates ect and then showing people to messy tables. One staff in the restaurant and the rest in the kitchen. Then when we ordered our dessert they didn't take the plates from our main and when we finally got our dessert they still didn't take our dinner plates. Women's toilets disgusting!! No soap no toilet seat and toilet paper left on the FLOOR!! AVOID!!!
Came for breakfast with my family, before finishing our journey. The lady that served us was very miserable! As soon as we walked in, we waited by the sign that read " please wait to be seated", she looked at us and said "yes"? I said we are waiting to be seated, her reply was, "go over by the window". When it came to ordering breakfast, she just stood there, but got funny because my partner was in the toilet so I wasn't ready to order. When it came to ordering, my partner wasn't given a choice between toast or fried bread. When he said he didn't want egg, she pulled a face. Customer service definitely needs major improvement!! It was also very cold in the building. On the up side, my mocha was lovely, and the food was ok but not hot enough
Just stopped here for a quick bite to eat and stretch my legs after a long drive back from Devon. Went to burger king where the staff were very busy but were doing a brilliant job credit to the manager Taz who was brilliant. However the seating here is a little confused as the Little Chef shares it's seating with Burger King. When I told my two children to go get sat down and I would queue for my food they came back to me to tell me they were told they were not allowed to sit down by a lady. My wife went to go see what was going on and stay with them. At this point the manager of Burger King went through and told them that BK customers ARE allowed in the seating area. When we went through to sit we had to sit at a large bench area not on a table with proper seats. Having young children this is not practical being that the seats are bar stools. We sat and ate and watched a multitude of people be told not to sit at the "nice" tables unless they were ordering from little chef. There were no signs about or any indication that this was the norm. Even the BK staff clearly had issue with it. The staff in little chef were some of the most miserable I have even seen. No smiles. No customer service. Just constant checking who was sitting where and eating what so as to police the tables like some kind of food servery Nazis. One was so zealous that she was constantly wandering about tutting and muttering and cleaning down her precious tables as soon as someone dared to lay a BK bag upon it. It is a shame that the staff in little chef did not apply this same rigid rule to the cleanliness and service of the customer toilets. These were really worse than some nightclub toilets at closing time. Minus of course the attendant with the assortment of sprays and lollypops. If you go here for little chef then you are mad. If you go here for service then you are going to be disappointed. Really horrible place. Avoid like a plague.
It looked scruffy and unwelcoming from the outside. We were quickly seated by a surly and unhelpful member of staff. Passable food came quickly but service poor; coffee not up to modern quality standards. Had to go looking for staffwhen we wanted to leave. During the whole time of our meal a quiet but unhappy and slow moving queue of 20 people waited to use the two cubicle and unpleasant toilets. A very unhappy experience - very glad to leave.
Back in the 70s, Little Chef had a reputation for providing mediocre, old-fashioned roadside food. If this place is any guide, they've expanded their repertoire to include not just mediocre food but downright awful food. My son's burger was OK, as was my coffee, but his milkshake was like runny plain yoghurt, with no trace of the advertised vanilla yep, they can even make plain vanilla too bland. I don't do exaggeration, but my cod and chips was definitely the worst ever: a sorry burnt sliver less than half the size of what you'd get in a pub for the same price, cooked together with the chips in a fryer whose oil seems to get changed less often than the oil in my car. Despite the place being empty but for one table, it took a while to get served; perhaps the staff couldn't believe anyone actually wanted to eat there.
Our family visited this Little Chef on 19th December. The service and food were second to none and the girl who served our food was so friendly helpful and attentive. As my husband, brother and I are all disabled we don't go out as a family very often and the experience on Friday was very positive. The problems occurred when it came to paying for our food. There was just one till in operation and I was prepared to stand in line even though I suffer severe Arthritis in my knees while people paid for crisps and drinks, while I was paying for food for 4 people. So you can imagine how angry I was when a lady pulled one member of staff to one side and asked her to take for her 1 meal ahead of the rest of us. When I remonstrated with her she said she WAS going ahead and I felt she was taking advantage of the kindness of the member of staff not putting her in her place. It seems a shame to mark your café down on the kindness of your staff but please will you train them to treat all of your clients fairly especially when disabled.
Absolutely disgusting. We stopped for a coffee break on Saturday 11th November. Staff just sitting around talking; tables left cluttered with plates and food; no one came to ask for our order; toilets were filthy and then a queue formed to be seated and no staff anywhere . Then to crown it off, we finally finished our coffee and started back on the road when 20mins later my wife felt violently ill with stomach pains, and I didn't feel great either. They must have used old stale milk in the Latte coffee. What has happened to "Little Chef" ? Will never stop there again !!
I'd give zero stars if I could! Rude and unhelpful staff. Went up to order as no staff seemed to want to stop talking to help, very gruffly told that all orders must be taken at the table. So, went to sit back down. 5 minutes later someone bothered to come over. Few people in coats wandering around the kitchen! Why? And one had his finger up his nose!!! Already ordered at this point and on a tight schedule so we had to stay. Waitress spotted coughing over the plates. She came over, didn't say anything then plonked the plates on the table, accused us of stealing our drinks then left. The table behind us dared to ask for a glass of water, she sighed and rolled her eyes as she turned away. My partners sauage was cold in the middle and we contemplated sending it back. Not expecting an apology or quick service to replace it, we ate the things we thought might be safe and left anything that may have made us ill. Quickly paid and got out of there. No wonder the chain is in trouble, customer service and basic food hygiene doesn't seem to exist!! I'd say outdoor coats in food preparation areas must break some sort of rule, not to mention coughing near food. Don't eat here.
