Lincolnshire Road Transport Museum

About

The latest about what's happening at the Lincolnshire Road Transport Museum, North Hykeham, Lincoln, including our special events.

Story

The Museum is open to the public (admission charges apply) on Sundays throughout the year (1000 to 1600 May to September, 1300 to 1600 October to April), and 1100 to 1600 on Mondays to Fridays from May to September inclusive and during October schools half term week.

The Museum is also open 1000 to 1600 on Bank Holiday Mondays from Easter Monday to August Bank Holiday inclusive.

See our 'events' or visit our website for more information about our special events - main events are 'Transport Festival' events Easter Sunday and first Sunday in November - when we get as many vehicles as we can on the road to offer rides, a car running day in August, and a vehicle rally (mainly cars, motorcycles and small commercials) in the grounds of Lincoln Castle in Summer.

The Museum has its own car park (special arrangements for 'park and ride' apply at our Easter and November special events, and the whole museum (including toilets) is wheelchair accessible. Registered 'assistance dogs' are welcome, but regret that other dogs are not allowed on the premises (or on vehicles at events.)

School and group visits are welcome by arrangement (either during public opening hours or at other times) - please phone or e-mail us.

If you need to contact us urgently, please phone during opening hours - we are a volunteer run organisation and can not respond immediately to Facebook messages!

Can not recommend this place enough!! Ask for Paul to do your tour if available.nWe home-educate our daughter and were only in the area for 4 days, so emailed about visiting on Thursday, at 10 pm Wednesday. We then had a reply to confirm a visit was available at 9 am Thursday morning!nnOnce we arrived we had a guided tour from Paul, who was patient with the kids my 2-year-old son also came gave information relevant to their age & interests and was so kind.nWell worth a visit, the kids could also go into a few of the buses, rang the fire engine bell, and were in awe of the size colours and scale of everything!nnAlso it's free to enter, they just ask for a donation!
Absolutely fascinating. Very busy, lots of families, great to see children so excited and interested in these old vehicles. The museum is larger than I had envisaged, with much more than vehicles here. Road signs, photographs, badges, vehicles waiting to be renovated, an AA box, rooms kitted out as old workshops .... and on it goes. Bus rides all day, always full - there must have been 4 or 5 out constantly. We went on the open topped bus, a good 20 - 30 minutes ride. Fabulous. Lots of enthusiastic volunteers, lot's of people reminiscing. The cafe didn't really keep up, too many visitors I think. Long queues at times, and most definitely not enough toilets .. but that was acceptable given the huge numbers there. I really hope people donated generously, this was a free event, even the bus rides were free I personally think there should have been a small charge, at least to cover the fuel used on each run, given the amount to see and do I would wholly recommend a visit to this amazing museum. There are various 'events' on during the year - see their website and don't miss out !!!!
Went on an open day on 30th June and had an amazing afternoon. Loads of vintage vehicles and written history attached or in various places in th building. Free bus rides around Hykeham and Lincoln areas. There were refreshments provided by Lincoln Morrisons too, which I thought very kind of them to give there support to a local museum.nWell worth a visit and putting my hand in my pocket to support such an interesting experience, thank you to everyone involved in making this a great experience.
What a hidden gem! This is well worth a visit, especially if you have an interest in local history, there's a wealth of information there. The cars and buses are amazing to see up close, and we had the joy of riding on a vintage bus too! The staff are so friendly and willing to tell you all you need to know about the vehicles. Definitely need to go here if you are in the area!
The museum is run as a registered charity, by a dedicated & enthusiastic team of volunteers. Excellent museum, with a great range of vintage buses, cars & other vehicles. You can also see some of the vehicles attending local vintage & classic events, as well as when the museum run various special events throughout the year.
