Levenshulme Antiques Village is a great place to find original and unique pieces of antique, pre-war and vintage furniture, as well as many other collectable antiques and decorative items. Visitors digging around the twenty individual antique specialist shops spread over three large floors should expect the unexpected.
Located for over thirty years in the superb Victorian Town Hall, built in 1898 for the Levenshulme Urban District Council, which they occupied until it became part of Manchester in 1909. It was then used as social services offices in the 1920’s, and the Grand Ballroom was used as an evening dance hall, all before the building became the well-known Antiques Village in the 1970’s. There is even an old communal surface Air Raid Shelter behind the main building. This was probably built for the use of the staff at the council offices and those in the police station next door.
One of the few Antiques Centres in the North West of England, the ornate building is itself an antique. Walk into the entrance hall and you will be greeted with original green wall tiling, magnificent mosaic floors and a grand staircase leading to the main hall.
Open to the general public, the Village is a long established community for those in the antiques business and private buyers a like. The centre sells a wide range of pre-war and reproduction furniture, antiques, fireplaces and chandeliers. Rooms of collectables contain an array of treasures from old police uniforms and antique model aeroplanes to 1950s pinball machines. The furniture ranges from Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian mahogany, imported continental pine, 1960s and 70s styles, modern Seshum designs and rustic pine as well as others so there is something for everyone! Most retail units within the Village have their own theme and unique collection of paraphernalia.
To the rear of the main building, there are specialist workshops in the old cobbled Corporation Yard offering traditional services ranging from re-upholstery, bespoke furniture makers, fireplace restoration, gate fabrication, ironmongery, stripping and restoration and a French lighting and objet d’art showroom.
