Stopped by on Saturday hoping to get some cake and coffee. Waited outside for a while as a small group of diners were being seated, no problem. As this was a group of five they had moved chairs around, this left a table outside with just one seat, perfect as I was solo. The waiter who was seating them then turned to me and abruptly went ‘yes?’ Like I was some annoyance. I asked if I could take a seat at the single table as I was hoping to get something sweet to eat and some coffee. He advised that they ‘only served lunch’ they do have a pudding menu and that my order would be ‘against the rules’. Then as I embarrassingly said ‘okay’, he turned and said again ‘it’s breaking the rules but I suppose you can if you like’ while turning away. At which point I just said no thanks. Inside was almost empty, I could possibly understand if I’d been taking up space at busy time. Being honest it wasn’t even the embarrassment of walking away in front of the other group, it was the rude way I was treated. Pity because the cafe has all the makings for a lovely local feel spot, ruined by unnecessary impolitenesses and unpleasant staff. Will not be back.
Lovely healthy place! The menu has been change every day?. It is the biggest pros and cons. I enjoyed well : Nice staff, healthy food! Booking is good for weekend And there is a break time after lunch time!
Woman who runs the place is so rude and absolutely hates you for being in her presence. £9 for a bowl of soup bread is £2.50 extra!! you’d expect some sort of basic service. If you want to be treated like a victorian orphan who’s just wandered off the street looking for gruel, this is the perfect place for you!
I checked the ‘live stock sheet’ on Saturday morning and was pleased to find that what I wanted was showing as in stock. I made a special trip just to go and buy it from Leila’s Shop. When I got there, I said hello to the proprietor, who was sitting behind the counter. I asked if she had what I wanted, and she barely looked up from her phone as she said ‘there’s a supply chain issue. You can get it on Amazon.’ Despite her brusque manner, she makes a good point - I’ll certainly be seeking any viable alternative to returning there in the future. I wasted my time in reliance on her faulty information and was met with summary dismissal. I have also been to the shop on a previous occasion and found that it was closed, despite the indication online that it would be open. I have to conclude that the person who runs this place has total contempt for her customers.
I cringe at people , who , upon encountering something different and special, they misunderstand it as a public space and when the place or the people rarely the food in this case don’t meet their expectations , egos get hurt and there go the one star reviews. Leila’s shop still follows Covid rules , and sells and serves delicious ingredients and food while adhering to the most incredible loyalty to their ethos of sustenance and sustainability. You won’t find a plastic cup or take away disposables and I think that is totally amazing and as a hospitality business myself, I take my hat off to Leila and her team. As for the food, just like food should be, delicious and nurturing, cooked in a wonderful kitchen without the suffering that most of this industry hides behind closed doors. Loved my lunch today! Thank you
Other reviews say it all. Woman who runs this shop is unpleasant and rude. What a shame. Sort it out. I'm embarrassed on your behalf. Nice veg doesn't give you carte blanche to act like a troll.
A gorgeous little store that feels like it belongs in some village in rural France, not London. Worth a visit for the selection of chocolate alone.
laptop free zone but no warning about that anywhere and was only told once we had already ordered food, so too late to go elsewhere.. I asked if I could use my laptop outside as I had to deal with something urgent and was told I couldn't so I ended up having to deal with my stuff from a bench in the square nearby. If you're going to have a policy that's anti living irl, at least advertise it somewhere. Food was nice.
I really wanted to like this place. The space is beautiful and the menu looked delightful. The produce was fresh but the preparation was quite bland, with portions that did not align with the price point. £16 for cod and potatoes with hardly any fish. The fish was broken down and mixed in with the potatoes. For a starter this would work but for a main? Only three bites of fish in total? Maybe I caught them on a bad day with not enough produce but I would not risk returning to test that theory
Tenner for this. I felt unwelcome. Asked what it was about because I thought damn I've misunderstood something here like. Got asked in return "have you ever worked in a cafe?". I said yes, but failed to add: if I had ever made you feel this unwelcome in my cafe I would've felt embarrassed; I would not have blamed you. Gutted, because it seems like a properly nice place. Good bread. Nice view. Gentle interior. But all of little or no consequence if you're made to feel an unwanted guest.
