La Gaffe Restaurant

About

Family run Restaurant and Guest Accommodation

Story

Since 1962, La Gaffe has been opening its doors to locals and overseas visitors alike. We opened originally as a restaurant but, over the years, we have expanded to include both our guest accommodation and wine bar.

We offer comfortable and competitively priced rooms, as well as delicious Italian cuisine. Set in the heart of Hampstead Village, one of London’s most charming areas, both our award-winning hotel and restaurant are family-run. We are warm and hospitable with our emphasis on informality.

nice hotel with very kind hosts! very basic but very delicious Breakfast and even though it's an old but clean! building with thin walls, I had a very pleasant stay and would definitely come back here when in London! Moreover, the fact that Hampstead Station is just a 5min walk away, is greatRooms: 5/5
Wasn't sure what to expect after booking, but it exceeded all my expectations and then some! Lorenzo was so welcoming and friendly, and we enjoyed drinks in the bar, served by Alex, who was really friendly too. The B&B itself is beautiful and full of interesting history. I attended with my Mum and we loved our room - it had everything you need for your stay in London - and for a brilliant price too! The continental breakfast was delicious and the staff serving that were lovely too. Can't wait to go back and experience more of this wonderful B&B, as well as the surrounding area! Thank you so much Lorenzo and the team!
Super close by to the Hampstead station! Recommend reading the website before booking as the rooms are smaller but it’s a bed and breakfast and it was built in the mid 1800s. Lorenzo was the sweetest and so accommodating. We actually arrived to London extremely early and gave us our room early too by luck/ chance but it helped us it lagged travelers from the U.S. He also helped us call a taxi for the airport too and showed us to our room. The continental breakfast was great and the woman helping out too was so kind. When we visit London again in the next couple of years will definitely come back here and I want to see Lorenzo too!
Lorenzo and the staff are the best - they went above and beyond to make our lives easier. Hampstead is a delightful little getaway within London. I would go back to La Gaffe any time. Nearby activities: Hampstead Heath, shopping on the main street, Burgh House, the Well Walk Threatre puppetshows Walkability: Many amenities nearby including groceries, pharmacy, cafe and luxury shops; VERY close to nearby subway station.
Le Gaffe has a lovely team that goes the extra mile to make you feel welcome and accommodated. The only thing I would comment on is that it would be helpful if guests had more clarity about the room they will be staying in. Otherwise, it’s a sweet and cozy place to stay in a fantastic location. Many thanks to the team at Le Gaffe
I stayed there for a couple of nights, the staff is so so kind to everybody, the price is amazing, the single room is perfect for a solo traveler. They always looked for me asking me to take an umbrella with me haha. Great people!Rooms: 5/5
I came to London to see Taylor Swift at Wembley stadium and stayed a few days for some sight seeing/touristy activities - I had a great stay at La Gaffe! I stayed in their single room, which is their smallest room. They openly advertise as being very compact, and it was...But I'm not traveling all the way to England just to sit in a hotel room all day so I honestly didn't care. But if you're traveling with a second person or prefer more space, I'd definitely suggest one of their larger rooms. My room was very clean...I wiped everything down with a disinfecting wipe upon my arrival I do this at all hotels and it didn't pick up a speck of dirt or dust! I prioritize cleanliness at hotels over room size, so I was very pleased. The room did not have air conditioning, but there was an overhead fan that kept temperatures comfortable on the two sunny days of my visit where outside temperatures reached 75f/24c. Breakfast is a plentiful selection of cold foods - they had croissants, rolls, bread for toast, hard boiled eggs, meat, cheese, and a selection of cereals. They also have condiments like Nutella/jam/butter, as well as juice, milk, water, and a basket of fresh fruit. The food and drink options were frequently replenished throughout breakfast so nothing ever ran out. They also have an espresso machine and will make you any coffee drink of your choosing, which I loved. I was perfectly happy with croissant sandwiches and lattes every day! The staff at La Gaffe were very kind. I tripped and injured my ankle while sight seeing during my stay; they gave me ice to help with the swelling and told me where I could find the closest pharmacy in case I needed anything. They also gave me good directions on how to get back from wembley stadium late at night, which I appreciated. Location wise, La Gaffe is great. There is a tesco express grocery store within a 5ish minute walk of the hotel that is open daily until midnight, so it's easy to grab snacks, a cheap meal, or a cold drink at any time during your stay. There is also a pharmacy, tons of restaurants, several bakeries, and many clothing stores nearby so there's lots to do even on days when you're jetlagged and don't feel like venturing far from the hotel. The hotel is a quick walk to the hampstead stop on the Northern line, which leads directly to tons of popular areas including Camden market, covent garden, Leicester Square, and Westminster. The walk back to the hotel from the hampstead stop involves quite a hefty hill though, so be prepared for a workout if you have luggage with you! All in all I'd absolutely recommend la gaffe to anyone looking for a great, affordable, no frills stay and I'd absolutely stay there again.
LA GAFFE IS MAGICAL! My beloved La Gaffe is brilliantly located in the midst of arty, Bohemian-but-elegant-and-swishy Hampstead, not far from its green lung, Hampstead Heath. It is always a delight to be welcomed back to La Gaffe where I have been returning as a guest since the 1980s. But even if you are a newcomer with a dislike for the blandly corporate and a penchant for the quirky and olde worlde Italiano, this is the place for you, and you will be warmly embraced as part of the La Gaffe family. A short hop from Hampstead Tube, you can be in the pulsating West End in a trice. The simple but delicious breakfast is served in a charming dining area with the ambiance of classical Italy. Lorenzo is a warm and welcoming Host and it was wonderful to see his papa, the stellar Bernado Stella, poet and playwright, still “holding Court” in the quaint café area which always has a delicious coffee aroma and is usually a second home to celebrities and local Hampstead personalities. Just writing this Review has tantalised me to book my next visit to London’s most adorable boutique hotel.
Good location for exploring the local area and well connected for public transport. Friendly service, continental breakfast and very nice coffee. Room was clean and comfortable.Rooms: 5/5
La Gaffe was the perfect choice for my partner and I visiting London. The room we stayed in which I highly recommend was the deluxe double room with jacuzzi. It was perfectly well equipped with a TV, hair dryer and so on, clean and spacious. The mattress was comfortable and the jacuzzi was perfect for relaxation after a rainy day in London! The hotel is a cluster of historic cottages appropriated into guest accomodation. The architecture is cosy, has a historic, warm character and is nicely decorated with mostly Italian themes since the owners are Italian. The ground floor space is perfect for relaxing and having coffee. Lorenzo and his team are very friendly and helpful and will go out of their way to make sure you are happy. For me, personally, the location couldn't be better. You are in quiet, idyllic Hampstead village. You have the sense that you are in a village and yet you are in the heart of London. The tube is just a few minutes walk away, you jump on the northern line and you are in the west end in 20 minutes. The area is perfect for walks, restaurants and pub visits - the Holly Bush being my favourite. The value was excellent too! Thank you La Gaffe, we will be sure to visit again :
