The views across the valley here are truly beautiful. I often buy fish and chips in the town and then take them to one of the many benches and feast away while enjoying the view. The grounds are free to enter but parking is pay and display and a charge is made to enter the castle itself. Access is from the town or by a relatively steep stair from the river below. A nice place to sit and watch the world go by for a while. Worth a visit.

Knaresborough castle is a very popular tourist attraction in Knaresborough, that even just for a short dog walk is very enjoyable. The majority of the castle is free to get into and calming to walk around. The views even from the free part is absolutely amazing. At night, the river reflects the lamppost light into the viaduct and it's beautiful. In the daytime, there are various attractions to. Fur a reasonable price, you can explore and tour the ruins of the castle. It's very enjoyable and signs posted around are very interesting, telling you about the history of it. There's also, very nearby, a museum with recreated scenes, toys and games from the past, with lots more detailed history. It's very interesting. You can also buy a wide range of souvenir items at the gift shop. They even do special events where you can take the kids to play and have fun whilst learning. These events include recreating battles and going down the sallyport. As well as historic events, you can do some sports there. You can hire out golf balls and clubs and play golf on their course, which is a great length. Or rent some bowls and have a go at crown green bowling on their green. Knaresborough castle is great for a sunny day out and has a wide range of activities.

Great medieval castle that was destroyed (at least in part) after the English Civil War. Knaresborough supported the royalist and was going to be totally razed but was partial spared upon a plea by the locals who needed a gaol. Thus the keep and surrounding walls are now for our enjoyment. See ravens, run around ruins, marvel at spectacular views over the river nidd. Take your kids to explore,, you will find this small market town a good day out. Parking is available very locally with modest prices, approx 60p for two hours,,,,, there are local landscaped gardens ( free ), but these are steep.

Beautiful views down from the castle across the water and viaduct. Castle itself is well preserved with historical facts dotted around on information boards. The lawns are clean and tidy and am sure the flower beds would be pretty in the summer. Close by to the shops, cafes and restaurants of Knaresborough centre.
