Had lunch and sat indoors on veranda. Lovely views but didn't enjoy being near the door to the back garden as the door made such a draft and banging as it closed, many times. I enjoyed the small portion of steak and ale pie which was a little dry but tasty, served with fresh greens. My husband had a risotto and enjoyed it. Too full for pudding.
I have known this place literally for decades but was very shocked and underwhelmed by my most recent visit. We arrived in the pouring rain. The pub was empty but we were told we could only have a drink in the garden, as the tables were set for dinner. We booked to eat the following night. Again, the pub was empty but we were given a tiny table at the end of the bar near the door. A man possibly the new manager stood right next to us with a clip board the whole time. It made me really uncomfortable. His job? To turn people away from an empty pub. It was all very odd and, frankly, put me off my food. The dinner was as good as ever. And of course no one can ruin the sublime scenery, but it was a sad and awkward experience.
Went here for dinner. Very nice place. Staff were really friendly and attentive. Didn't have to wait long for anything. Local beer was great and everything was reasonably priced. Would have been nice for the outer door not to be proped open as it let a lot of cold air in when the door was opened. Would also be good if all the prices were on the menu. I had the stake and ale pie, was dry and tasted burnt around the edges. Pie covered in a tasty yus. Served with amazing chips and veg. Very worth while visiting. Book in advance
Stopped by with our dog after a hike around loweswater and got a coffee and a cake. I can’t describe how amazing their chocolate brownie was, easily the best I’ve ever had and I’ve eaten a lot of brownies in my time! Their Victoria Sponge was also extremely tasty The ambience was warm, friendly, the staff were very welcoming to both us and our dog. We were really pleased we stopped here and would definitely go again! Ample parking too which helps!
Didnt stay so cant comment on the rooms. But bar very good and food. Meal time menues and a day time snack menu with a good choice. Also excellent cheese scones. Quite a lot of parking, beautiful position, gorgeous views. Lovely outside garden seating /table area.Service: 4/5
Loved our lunch here! The steak and ale pie was delicious and nicely finished off with a Bakewell tart! Great selection of ales, including the famous Loweswater Gold. Only slight negative was the speed of service, however understandable given it was a busy Sunday!Service: 4/5
Unmissable. Food is first class, ambience warm and welcoming. Have their own beers brewed by the excellent Loweswater Brewery. Book ahead if eating, it’s popular!
Visited here Feb 21st with my Boyfriend. We had a 3 course meal and drinks - the food was lovely. The drinks were nice, bartender was friendly. It was clean and tidy inside with a nice log fire burning and a cosy atmosphere.Service: 5/5
Everything a perfect Inn should be. Great staff, good food, comfortable room, superb location and its’ own good beer. An absolute pleasure to have stayed there and a big thank you to all the staff. Outstanding
Stayed a couple of nights. Food is pretty good, room very clean and comfy, but you could hear the phone calls in their office. The booking through their website is slightly confusing. Staff are really nice...but the best thing is the setting.
