A great place for a day/half day out with the family. First of all, it’s free - even the car parking. The kids play park is big and has lots of variety. Much of it is quite new. The museum is educational and focuses on local history. There’s a short woodland walk which is accessible all year round. The walled garden is the only attraction that charges. We were lucky enough for it to be free when we visited as the Xmas market was on. The gardens are well kept and nice to explore. The cafe is well priced and the Scones with Jam and Cream are to die for.
Brilliant little place. Free parking, free entry for the museum. Lovely little playground and cafe. Great for families. Highlight was the owl centre which was very reasonably priced and well worth a visit. Walked garden and more upmarket cafe just a two minute walk away.
An amazing place. We went here with 60 nine year old children on a school trip recently. We were looking at the Anglo-Saxons the staff were very friendly and put on some great activities. The museum was also great well set out, with great displays. In the surrounding areas there are walled gardens that I didn't get to see, which i will definitely be visiting and also an owl sanctuary which I will be visiting. These places i didn't get to see on the school trip There's a great play area for the kids, our groups loved it. Highly recommended
Free museum, some interactive things for children and adults. The museum is set in extensive grounds with various things to see and do - playground, knife angel sculpture, woods. Owl sanctuary and walled gardens nearby separate charge.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Fascinating, free museum exploring local history. Teaches you the history of the steal industry with videos, interactive displays and models. We were lucky to catch the knife angel which is a sobering sculpture of knife crime in the UK.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Well worth a visit, a large play area next to the carpark then a look round the Museum and then onto the Owl Sanctuary. The Museum takes you back to the steel industry as we as other exhibits. The Owl Sanctuary next door was a great day out, loads of different birds. Then the trainers got a Black Vulcher out to fly as well as 3 red kites, excellent seeing the birds flying free. The trainers then went onto feed the Meerkats and Porcupines. Enjoyable day out, kids will love it.
Plenty to do here. Park play including musical instruments, photo exhibition, museum, woodland walks, owl centre, and walled garden. Only nightmare was the walled garden cafe. Long queue for mediocre, high priced food, and I had to kill five wasps due the the doors being open.
We went to see the Angel, but also wanted to go to the museum as well as the sanctuary, however when we arrived we was slightly disappointed to find both museum and sanctuary was closed on Mondaysdidn’t use google maps/satnav is I knew where I was going I have only knocked one star off as we had nice walk around. free parking as-well
We went here for the fantabulous 'Thrift Festival' what a wonderful day we had together my 8 year old was totally enthralled we made Jam, watched a puppet theatre show, watched a performance regarding recycling. We spent all day wandering and enjoying the outdoors..
Free and in beautiful surroundings. A model of its kind as a small local authority museum.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
