Story

For more than thirty years, Ken Varey's Town & Country wear has been growing, developing and evolving until we have become one of the most highly-regarded suppliers of outdoor and country clothing and accessories in the North of England and beyond.

Ken Varey's welcomes a diverse range of customers every day. Our first branch was opened more than thirty years ago in Clitheroe and in October 2011, we were extremely proud to launch a new branch in Skipton.

With the Closure of our Skipton branch in 2017 Ken Varey's now resides in Clitheroe. We would like to thank all our Skipton customers for their support over the years and all vouchers and credit notes given by the branch can be redeemed in our Clitheroe branch.

My wife bought a Barbour Belsay yesterday which she says is perfect. Staff were helpful and friendly to both of us and our dog got treats. Overall shopping there was enjoyable as the shop is packed with top quality out door gear.

Ordered a jacket on their website, which states their staff take time to package the item beautifully, wrapped in tissue paper and an official Vareys bag. I don't particularly care about the style of packaging but it arrived scrunched up in a crumpled brown bag, no tissue paper and still had the security tag attached to the label in the jacket. Not impressed.

Whilst in Clitheroe, my wife & I called in for a look around. I’ve been wanting a hood for my old Barbour jacket & enquired if they could help. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful. They knew they should have the exact hood but could just put their hands on one, after a 10 minutes & I think all staff hunting around the stockroom. The hood was found. Thanks to all at Ken Varey. I’m a very happy customer . 5* service.

Struggling to give any stars. Just been into the shop with my husband, despite 5 staff being in the shop, no one so much as raised their eyes at us and no other customers in.  Not the first time this has happened either. I did want to make a purchase but will buy elsewhere as they clearly don’t value the business. Disappointing.

Please can the pushy dark-haired middle aged woman who tried to sell me £500 worth without my trying the clothes on properly please find another job?! I arrived at 5.10pm - new in town, just curious as I saw a brand I love available in Clitheroe. The guys working here are charming and polite but this woman shouldn’t be let near customers. I’m from London and have more Barbour than I need but she almost made me loathe my brand & her Du Barry sales pitch was pathetic. I told her I had an appointment at 5.30pm… I looked at a jumper “ Try it on, just try it on!!” I mean she was more pushy than pushy. I felt myself heading into a booth as of pulled by a magnetic force. Her Greed, of course. Oh how gross! I looked at a pair of Du Barry boots @£375. I mean, by this time I was properly heading out of the door with her practically clinging! “Try them on’” she pleads “Just try one on !!!”  I realised she’d lost it.  This is a cool shop but guys, I’m from London Central. I get most of my Barbour from HN. They know how to behave around people who are looking at clothes. It’s an experience.  This shop? This assistant? She’s utterly obnoxious. A 100% fraud & customers know when we’re being done. Truly.  I balked,  truly at having some ghastly  woman expecting me to part with almost £400 by insisting I try on just one boot when I’d explained I had an appointment. What was this fiasco? I mean… really?!  An almost surrealistic experience.

As others have said, very rude staff. Went to buy a shirt and the woman on the till very abruptly told me ‘go to the men’s till,’ even though there was no-one waiting in queue! There wasn’t even anything to indicate there were separate men’s and women’s tills - and it’s only a small store anyway. They also won’t give refunds, even when a product is unworn with tags on and receipt - only credit notes. They don’t tell you this when you buy a product. Haven’t know this to happen anywhere else. Unusual to find such bad customer service in this day and age.

Loved this shop, a great selection of mens and ladies clothing alike, top brands and reasonable prices, the staff are very friendly and extremely helpful. Went in for a browse, spent a fortune, well worth it

Very good range of products with a large choice of sizes and excellent sales staff especially Helen who sorted me out with a very nice Barbour jacket.
