Kopitiam (koh-pi-tee-am): Malaysian word for a traditional coffee shop selling delicious street food

We're a Malaysian street food stall serving up food that Julie's mother taught her to make. You might recognise us from street food festivals and markets like the Big Feed, Feast End Street Food Festival and Ross Street Market, or from our fixtures at Gordon Lane and Buchanan Galleries.

The Kopitiam will be our first permanent venue located in the heart of Shawlands. We hope to open our doors to you at the start of summer 2017.

Disclaimer: This is a michelin guide restaurant. Not a michelin star restaurant. Im actually amazed that a malaysian food can be part of the michelin guide in the uk and its not even in london. The food were good and some of them are indonesian. So its more of a south east asian food or maybe javanese as all these people came from java. If you are in glasgow, this is the place you should come to eat since they are super amazing and worth them. Beware this place needs to be reserved since there are only 4 tables and open at specific time. Also, it might be a little bit expensive as per glasgow city. Nevertheless, this is definitely recommended me. P.s. you can trust me since im an expert of south east asian food. Havent found a good one in london they are usually whackk.
Julie's is an absolute gem in the southside of Glasgow. The menu has lots on it but isn't overwhelming, it's always very busy and the service is great. Then, there's the food. Well thought out, big tasty dishes that are all fresh and delicious. I haven't eaten a thing that hasn't been a 10/10, just wish my pics did it justice! Mince roti, to die for. The pork in the nasi goreng was also outta this world tonight too. Everyone, go! Just go, right now. Stop what you're doing, and go to Julie's.
In search of a good Malaysian style eatery as home sicked Malaysians. We ordered 3 lunch mains and 1 snack to share. Chicken curry, nasi goreng & fried mee hoonrice noodles, roti chanaisouth Indian bread/chapati. This review is done on the basis of a taste authenticity b presentation c service quality and c 'eat-ability' The curry was tasteless and presented in a mess; the nasi goreng was soggy and had a strange taste something undercooked like, same with the Mee hoon, soggy & broken up noodles I detected the used of garlic out of a jar and not cooked through, roti chanai was burnt in parts and parts not fully toasted hence doughy, obviously defrosted from freezer. The only saving grace was the sambal that came as a dip for the roti. That was authentic tasting. Everything looked and tasted like heating badly from frozen. Absolute disaster! We couldn't eat the dishes even we went in very hungry at around 2pm for lunch. They charged a total of £24 plus a cup of lemongrass tea, didn't even see the tea bag in the cup for that and the service person was reluctant to give me my 1 pound change! This place scored for me low in all a, b, c & d categories! It's can't pass as a standard eatery never mind the pretend 'Malaysian' style. My personal view -- Avoid. Never to go back.
Let’s start with the Nasi Goreng: Salty, very oily and had just enough flavour to be borderline authentic. Then there’s the Sichuan mince pork: had some flavour but it was absolutely DRENCHED in oil it was overflowing out of the take out box. Then there’s the smashed cucumbers: not pickled, not spicy, incredibly bland, and my friend who ate it said “they’d rather eat a whole, raw cucumber” than eat this again. Then there’s the Nonya style chicken curry: Literally soup, not even curry. No Nonya flavours at all, too oily but had enough flavour for me to somewhat enjoy it with rice. The plain jasmine rice was the best thing we ordered Then there’s the Mango sticky rice: As you can see from the photo, it had no mangoes, wasn’t even sticky, literally just jasmine rice packed tightly and drenched in the juices from a tin of canned mango. Then, the worst dish I’ve ever eaten in my life, the Mee Goreng: Not even the correct noodles, stupidly salty, no flavour at all, shrimps were microscopic, vegetables were non existent. Completely inedible, I would expect any random Chinese takeout to produce better food than this. As a Malaysian, I read about this place and thought “Finally! Authentic Malaysian food on Michelin Guide! This has got to be delicious!” I saw photos and I instantly felt homesick and craved food from my home country. After this, I can honestly say I’ve never been more disappointed in my life. Absolute disgrace to Malaysian and Southeast Asian culture. Did I mention it was overpriced too?
Despite its huge social media following, I found it acceptable but not exceptional. It seats about 18 max on uncovered tables and hard chairs. Service was friendly and we were seated immediately, the food isn't cooked to order as in the main it's not that type of food, but basically reheated. Could have been a little warmer to be honest, not send it back cool but zero chance of burns. I guess there's a reason Malaysian based food chains aren't fighting for High Street space, the food is fairly authentic, and that's my real problem with it, our favourite restaurant when we were in Malaysia was Persian food.
Some of the best food in Glasgow. Really tasty Malaysian food. Friendly staff and fantastic food. It reminds me of Mission Chinese food in SF with a casual environment and a modern take on a cuisine with big bold flavors. Both the hot tea and lapsong souchong slushy are great. I'll be back soon!
The food was so good here I forgot to take photos! We went to Malaysia on holiday last year and the dishes at Julie's took us straight back to Langkawi. The pork dumplings are amazing!
Really tasty, really fresh and great vegetarian options, and lovely helpful staff
Food is outstanding can't wait to try the evening menu. They don't take reservations so go an hour before you want to eat and put your name on the waiting list!
Excellent South East Asian dishes in very reasonable price
