Story

A Dundee pub will finally open its doors next year after standing empty for more than two years. Work has started on the new addition to JD wetherspoon hotel chain. Architects described the plans as “a mix of a traditional bar with some modern twists”. There will be a 13-bedroom extension to the hotel, increasing the number of rooms on the hotel’s first and second floors to 25. Ferry councillor Laurie Bidwell said “Like many folk in Broughty Ferry, I am pleased Jolly’s will be reopening in the spring. The hotel premises have hung around empty for a while and the buildings have been looking a bit forlorn.


We will be keeping the name as Jollys Hotel which is due to open in March

What a lovely hotel. Very clean, very friendly staff, excellent food at very reasonable prices. The small double room is a smallish room but perfecly formed. The bed is a small double which for a couple was too small, unless you are both petite. I would say it is more like a large single. The room had a small desk with chair, wardrobe, flat screen TV, side tables, tea/coffee biscuits and kettle, and a large bathroom. All bedroom and bathroom fixtures and fittings were very modern. Room was very clean. The normal double room was a good bit bigger as was the bed and well worth the extra few pounds. It had a standard lamp, small upholstered chair extra, a larger bed and desk and walk in double shower. You won't be disappointed whatsover.

Nice 'Spoons hotel. Be wary though. Room 18 is promoted as a DOUBLE! No way under God's canopy is this a double! Compact and bejoux, yes. Could it take a double, yes. Does it have a double, NO IT DOES NOT! It has a queen size bed, eh! OK if you're a couple who are anorexic, athletic and who are also vertically challenged. The stay, after we were moved, was good, as to was the food and drink. Just a pity there isn't an on site car park, but there is free parking approx 50m away at the seafront. Hope this helps folk as this could have been useful prior to us booking. Didn't spoil our trip on bit. Staff are very attentive.

Staff left foods sitting on hot plates for about 10 minutes before bringing it to be served for no real reason.. Pub was fairly quiet. Wont be back in a hurry.

Excellent food and fairly quick service. Food did sit out for a while on the hot plates before being delivered but was still hot. Very good value with free refills of tea and coffee. Place can be crowded and noisy at times but very nice when a bit quieter.

This Wetherspoons is a great find in Broughty Ferry. Very popular excellent service reasonable prices. Area divided into two parts the bar area and quieter resturant.
