Story

A Dundee pub will finally open its doors next year after standing empty for more than two years. Work has started on the new addition to JD wetherspoon hotel chain. Architects described the plans as “a mix of a traditional bar with some modern twists”. There will be a 13-bedroom extension to the hotel, increasing the number of rooms on the hotel’s first and second floors to 25. Ferry councillor Laurie Bidwell said “Like many folk in Broughty Ferry, I am pleased Jolly’s will be reopening in the spring. The hotel premises have hung around empty for a while and the buildings have been looking a bit forlorn.


We will be keeping the name as Jollys Hotel which is due to open in March

We just spent 2 nights staying here with friends for Valentine’s Day, We had a lovely room, and the service from the hotel staff was brilliant, we had quite a good few drinks and as well as losing my watch which was found quickly by the girl on the desk, my partner “nakedly” got locked out of our room at 5am, the staff were such good sports and made us feel like nothing mattered. We will 100% be back as long as we’re allowed thank you for everything and apologies again to Emma for all the hilarity and nakedness. See you all again soon.
Didn't stay at hotel. Popped in for food and a drink. Busy place and only 2 members of staff behind bar taking food and drink orders - felt another 1 or 2 behind bar would have been better. That being said staff did their best on a busy Saturday afternoon.
Why does it always seem so understaffed? I thought I’d try coming again after not being in for over a year but doesn’t seem like anything has changed. Not saying the staff aren’t busy doing other jobs but it’s rare to see more than one person serving. Ordering from the app is pointless as it doesn’t get you served quicker and watched a few people still have to go up to the bar to check on where their drinks where. I always give them another go after a while but it’s the same old disappointing service with dirty tables all over the place. Will maybe see if things improve in another year before I visit again. It’s a shame because it’s decent food and cheap drinks in a great location but service always seems to be lacking
This is our unknown amount of visits but we have stayed here a lot. I would not stay anywhere else, it is great! The rooms are lovely, nicely decorated and very clean. Also it is cheap. Wetherspoons hotels are really good. I think there are 14 rooms at this one. There is no direct parking but we have always found on the street parking not too far away. I cannot complain about anything. The food is good. There is no breakfast included in the price. The hotel is in the middle of the town, 5 minutes from the harbour and is amongst the shops. I would and will stay here again.
We called today with our granddaughters on half term break. After much deliberation the girls had chosen pizza, so off to order sorry no pizza today. So changed our order paid and waited, and waited, and waited all the time watching food arrive at service and just left. By the time it was served the food was cold we witnessed several customers taking it back because of this. Eventually our food arrived my granddaughters burger was hot as it was the last to arrive at service my fish and chips was only warm and the batter underneath soggy. My wife's baked potato was cold which she took back. A 2nd baked potato arrived even colder than the first, this one was returned too by the time the 3rd arrived we had finished so that was returned for a refund as we were leaving the refund deducted the cost of the drink which after the poor service we should have had compensation. Excuse was they were busy, I've been in weatherspoons when we couldn't get a seat and been served quicker.nIn all poor organisation lack of staff, and mediocre food. Won't be visiting again
