REVIEW FOR PROSPECTIVE POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS 1 star goes to how secure the place is and how close it is to the police 2 star goes to the fantastic reception team, always making an effort to help out the best way possible 3 goes to the close proximity of the shopping complex, especially good for international students still finding their way around Now below is my 2cents of the overall experience: BOOKINGS:The accomodation website gives you the best option for your study level. Although I choose to mix with undergraduates I assume they'd place me with at least final year undergraduates, but noooooo FLATMATES: sharing an apartment with undergraduates IN THEIR SECOND SEMESTER OF THEIR FIST YEAR, as a postgraduate student doing a 1year intense was an epic FAIL. There was not a week that would pass when wouldn't report about my flatmates' behaviour, uncleanness and the lack of sleep because of the midnight-3am hour noise. My studies have suffered real bad as well as compromised my health due to bad hygiene in shared spaces. WHY I CHOSE THE PLACE: 1 living with flatmates is a great way to know a few people especially when you don't know a soul in the UK. One of my flatmates, Linah was kind enough to show me around and how things work, bless her 2 It's quite unfortunate that the university website does not offer a lot of options for international students, especially postgraduates. If you can, which might not be wise as affordable accomodation spaces fill up real quick, do book yourself in a hotel or short term accommodation a month before schools opens. This will give you a chance to view apartments in person, because online pictures tend to be overrated. You can also check out YouTube vlogs, you'll highly likely see the apartments for what they are and get the sense and energy of people you might find yourself living with, to see if it's worth it pain. ACCOMODATION SUGGESTIONS: I honestly would have preferred ensuite or studio apartment even. So please If you are a POSTGRADUATE, do go to "Manchester student homes" website you'll get a lot of options there before settling for John Lester. Or consider: IQ student Accommodation, X1 The campus, Tramways.. Or go to google maps it will also give options of accommodations near your school. ADVICE: Settle for John Lester because you're on a tight budget. TRUST ME YOU DO NOT WANT TO SPEND 12 MONTHS OF YOUR VALUABLE TIME FIGHTING PETTY APARTMENT Battles, trying to keep the place in tact so you don't pay for someone else damages and the horrors of sharing one bathroom. I'd suggest John Lester's LANDORD to renovate the showers, paint the bathroom ceilings with waterproof and mould proof paint, and turn the other apartments in the premises into ENSUITES specially for POSTGRADUATES and final year students.
Great place to live, staff are always chatty and helpful with whatever is wrong. Amazing staff all together. Would definitely recommend to stay here if at Salford university
ITS A SCAM! PHOTOS ARE NOT REAL! Please do not book here before visiting! It’s a disgusting place and certainly not worth the money you’re paying. You’re being overcharged for the rooms. They’re like prison rooms. This room in the photo is an actual silver room. Now check the silver rooms on the photos provided on their website. It’s all falsely advertised. Please do not book before you view it.
I liked the room and the facilities. The people are also welcoming and very helpful with information and assistance.
Amazing experience. Had a stay of almost 2 months and it was absolutely worth it. Hats off to Tony who is really Supportive and always there to help. Highly recommended for students who are looking for safe and lavish accomodation.
On the outside it looks a bit like a soviet commieblock, it's located right next to a police station safe, but can hear sirens every now and then, and most of all, it's a student dorm, so don't expect a posh 5 star hotel. Most likely you'll be sharing your flat with other people, and do have to clean up after yourself. But pros dwarf the cons: it's cheap, you have all the stores and a shopping centre to fill all your needs just a 5 min walk away, the salford uni and train station just mere 10 min walking distance, about 30-40 min walk to Manchester centre, plenty of public transportation options and a bike storage. But that's not all! You get to meet all sorts of amazing and interesting people, make new friends, attend events etc. And the staff, wonderful and helpful people, especially Marcus, Marcus you're the man! I don't regret staying there one bit, not one iota. If you are a young uni student, why not give it a shot.
Disgusting company. Staff can come across as preditery, coming into your room in the middle of the night unannounced and then borderline refusing to leave. The hygiene of the flats is appalling. Disabled people have been charged extra for wheelchair access. The maintenance team refuse to fix anything. Thanks to the staff here I feel like I cannot sleep in a safe space. Also they don't seem very fond of paying people their deposit back.
Bronze room: Has silver fish everywhere, rooms are cramped, had to share a bathroom with 3 others which isn't ideal. Bathroom was mouldy and weirdly big. Kitchen was inadequate for 4 people, it had 4 stools that you were supposed to use with the kitchen counters, oven and hob were grim and food burnt on. All furniture was outdated. Carpet within the flat was covered in stains and the walls needed a replaster and paint, desk was broken. Bathroom light went often and the toilet leaked. Staff were nice and the common areas downstairs were nice. Staff put on events, was nice to sit outside on the chairs. Security didn't sit in the small building at night they would patrol the common areas and round the building. If you can go to sleep to police sirens this is the place to go as they go off 24/7
The Staff here are lovely, probably the only redeeming quality The location would be great if not for the police station next door sending out what seems like the entire police force The building isn't great with lifts that feel and sound like death traps The flats are not up to standard for the price, which is being payed. Its only worthwhile staying here if you get a bronze room or a diamond room, all the rest are not worth justifying the price. The kitchen and bathrooms do lack the necessary utilities or the quality of these utilities to justify the price which is being asked for The company Campus Living Villages have poor contracts which lock people in with no way out other than having to advertise their room for sale hundreds of times There are far better options in the area P.S. Enjoy the silverfish
A very basic accomodation and not worth the money at all. To start with, the rooms are basic to put it politely, when I moved in, in September, there was mould around the window and on the ceiling which I understand can happen but this was before I had even moved in, so clearly, maintenance hadn't 'properly' checked the rooms before the residents moved in. The noteboard isn't really a noteboard as the other guys in my flat can't find anything except blu-tac to stick notes on which isn't that ideal. The corridors are just dull and they don't look inviting or clean half of the time. The kitchen's are too small and the oven is outdated / a nightmare to clean. There is no 'cleaning staff' and the waiting times, if you need them, are pretty appalling too. The bathrooms are atrocious, the showers are basic and block extremely easily, we've had multiple leaks from the toilet and sink. And finally, there is little ventilation too, which is awful for a bathroom. I chose not to live there during the second lockdown and it's the best decision that I made because my mental health was genuinely starting to take it's toll whilst I live there and there was no clear guidance from 'Campus Living Villages' or the university on what to do and how to reach out if I felt that I needed too Luckily I didn't need to in the end because I moved back home. Also, another note, would be that 'Campus Living Villages' makes it impossible to cancel your contract, from what I've heard from people who have dropped out of uni or wanted to find an actual 'good' place to stay whilst at uni. In conclusion, I would not reccomend this place to anyone and would tell any university students, not to stay here. However, I would like to put it out there and say that the staff are incredible. They're always there, if you need to collect a parcel / post. And even if you go out of hours due to lectures they'll still check!
