About

Landscape Photographic Gallery

Story

The Joe Cornish Gallery is based in the beautiful Register House, an 18th century grade II listed building in the centre of Northallerton.

On our ground floor we display and sell a permanent collection of contemporary limited edition prints by internationally renowned landscape photographer Joe Cornish. Based in the North East for over 20 years, Joe Cornish is regarded as one of the UK’s leading landscape photographers. Joe’s photography has taken him all over the world, but his chief inspiration remains the rugged landscape and coast of the North East of England.

On the first floors we have additional permanent galleries showing exclusive work by other photographic practitioners as well as a space, available for hire, for workshops and meetings.

In addition, the Gallery hosts several temporary exhibitions each year. The temporary exhibitions feature work by painters, printmakers, photographers, sculptors, and ceramicists whose work concerns relationships with landscape, the natural world and the environment.

On the ground floor we have a Gallery Shop selling specially selected craft items including jewellery, wood art, ceramics, glassware and furniture. We also stock scarves, handbags and other accessories. The gallery operates a thriving publishing company producing books, greeting cards, calendars and other goods which are also for sale in the gallery shop. Our most recent publication is a beautifully produced retrospective celebration of Joe Cornish’s work for the gallery over the past 10 years.

100% worth a visit if you're interested in photography. The photographs are stunning and it's such a quiet relaxing place with lovely staff. Such a shame that it's closing down so make sure to visit before that happens! Free and dog-friendly with a cafe too but the cafe isn't dog friendly. It's a lovely galleryVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Beautiful welcoming gallery, lots of Joe Cornish prints but a good selection of other artists too. Beautiful reflection rooms and good seating for the cafe throughout, also very dog friendly
Now a regular stop-off when we are heading North to Scotland. Great coffee, fab bacon roll and cakes and a selection of wonderful photography and other exhibits to enjoy. The small gallery shop has a well selected range of items throughout the year. The sales offer up superb bargains too. Alas we can't always make it for specific exhibitions but there is always something to see and enjoy.
First class photography gallery, mostly landscapes, a warm welcome from the staff
It's is Place I go to on a regular basis, a haven of peace to be walking around and viewing the great photographic art, not just the work of Joe Cornish but others such as David Ward, Mark Littlejohn, Lizzie Sheperd, Charles Cramer, Graham Cook, Linda Lashford and a few more too and it is free to go in. But enjoy the cafe while you are there, great Cuppa and a slice of cake.
Fabulous gallery and cafe. The photographic art work for sale here is simply stunning! Great to admire whilst enjoying a cuppa. Cyclists are welcome with a safe place to leave your bike inside the court yard whilst you refuel at the cafe. Highly recommended and well worth a visit.
Excellent place to visit for its range of stunning photographic prints. Make the most of it while it's here! It will be sadly missed.
A fantastic selection of photographs by local and other photographers. A great team, always helpful and happy to chat. Could spend ages there just enjoying the wonderful prints.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo wait
It has a nice cafe with indoor and outdoor dining. The galleries are full of interesting exhibits. Sit in comfortable rooms to read some of the many books. Joe is a famous landscape photographer who lives and works in North Yorkshire as well as travelling the world capturing remarkable images as well as photographing his home county. I revisit his galleries in Northallerton a couple of times a year and always enjoy the experience.
Great venue as a gallery for his photography. Other photographers work is on display along with artisan jewellery. Wonderful coffee shop on site.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
