"The Union Rooms recalls the origin of this Wetherspoon pub as the West Riding Union Bank, built in 1876. From the late 1800s until the 1960s, Hick Lane was the hub of Batley’s commercial and financial quarter. West Riding Union Bank was taken over by Lancashire & Yorkshire Bank, in 1902, which in turn was absorbed by Martins Bank, in 1928. At the time of the conveyance to Martins, the building was described as bank premises, club rooms, a dwelling house and stables. Barclays took over Martins in 1969."

A rather tired looking Spoons in what must have been a grand building back in the day. Toilets up several flights of stairs. Staff friendly and efficient.Service: 5/5

Beautiful building. The usual excellent staff and value for money. Pity about the location. Parking: Free parking within a couple of minutes walk
Called in on Sunday lunchtime 1st September around 12.15. Male member of staff took an order for 12 drinks. Only one member of staff serving. Whilst serving us a female member of staff appeared behind the bar and asked if anyone needed serving. When we said we were all together she duly vanished back behind the bar after serving one customer rather than helping the Male member of staff with the large order? No smiling faces or enthusiasm showed at all from the bar staff...obviously not a happy place to work.
This was a brilliant pub to go drinking at, with a lush design! This is shown through the decor even at windows, counter is well-presented and offer was on for cheap Edinburgh Gin that was nice. Me and my friend also got to go 2 for 1 on cocktails, sitting comfortably at a circular table!Service: 5/5
£3.14 for a full english.. can't go wrong. Amazing food and service as well. Food always perfect. Refillable coffee is £1Food: 5/5
Exterior looks far grander than the inside. But the staff are very welcoming and the food and drink were served really quickly. As with all spoons the food is inexpensive and well worth the money you pay.You need your mountaineering gear to climb the three flights of stairs to the toilets!!! No car park on-site but a small free one just up the road.Well worth a visit if your in the area!!!
Great value for money, it must be the cheapest spoons in England. Good service from pleasant staff and good food. Beers are much cheaper than the Cleckheaton branch.Food: 5/5
