It was the home of Evan Roberts, the evangelist renowned for starting the 1904-05 revival in South Wales.

We booked the family room, because it was advertised as the birth place of Evan Roberts, a man of great honor in the Christian faith. However, as believers choosing to stay at Island House for that reason, we questioned whether the owners use it more for marketing ploy, than to preserve a place of interest for Christians. For example: Gordon was obviously drunk the night we checked in and insulted a female in our group with sexual innuendo, which as a recent widow, was distressing and made the rest of her stay uncomfortable. There was only one bathroom that had to serve up to 8 people in four bedrooms. The B&B was full and it was difficult and embarrassing to line up for the toilet and shower. The website says there is another toilet and power shower, however the brochure does not tell you, it was located in the owners private quarters down stairs and very awkward to have to ask to use it. The owners were not willing to make the pool and hot tub available when it was advertised as amenities on their website from May to September (weather permitting in fine print) We were planning to about making use of the pool and hot tub and was very disappoint . Again, the only access is through their private living area and having asked twice to use it; we were told "NO" as he had to clean it and sit out there as a life guard, while we use it! We were told to be ready for breakfast at 8am sharp on Bank Holiday Monday, as the owners had plans, but sat waiting until about 0820! The level of integrity left a great deal to be desired. Definitely not the heart of people who desire to honor and serve people of faith.
