Worth every single bite. We came from Dublin just for this dinner and we do not regret anything. Every single bite is a dream come true. Definitely go if you can and make sure to order plum sake and ice wine with your food.Food: 5/5
A must try experience if you’re in Cork! Dishes are all unique and are made with upmost care and quality. Leave you wanting more. Had a great time. Congratulations to the chef! Thank you!
Surprised to hear that a Michelin star restaurant was not willingly to accommodate a soy allergy because “all the dishes are marinated in soy.” That should tell you how versatile the chef is. And I’ve been to Japan - not everything is soaked in soy sauce. In fairness, the restaurant was prompt to communicate with me about these issues after I made my reservation.
This was my first Michelin star experience in Ireland and we had seats at the counter, so I was really excited! The food was very good and reminiscent of my experience in Japan. I particularly enjoyed the sushi and sashimi, because it’s so hard to come by quality ones in Ireland. Other highlights would be the langoustine jelly, braised octopus, grilled lamb and sweetbread I’m quite adverse to lamb usually, but went beautifully with the foam made from yogurt and the rice dish with sardine which was done like eel. I enjoyed the steam egg though none of my friends did. The daifuku was also less chewy than I expected. Though the portions looked small, we were thoroughly stuffed by the end of the meal. Great value for innovative dishes we paid 135 euros. There’s a good selection of sake! Sitting at the counter 15 euros more than table seating is also recommended as you can interact with the chef. He is quite shy and takes time to warm up, but good insights when he does. He also did disappear towards the end of the dinner as mentioned in a previous review, which can come across a little awkward. The service of the staff was a tad standoff-ish at times, which may be normal in a Michelin restaurant, or maybe she was just annoyed with us for outstaying our welcome as they had fixed seating times. My friend also thought the scent of the handwash was a tad too strong, and that interfered slightly with her enjoyment of the food. We would still definitely recommend this and we’ll surely be back for more.
Craving decent Japanese after moving home from abroad and this was amazing I'm can't say I frequent Michelin restaurants so can't compare only to abroad. The food was amazing so tasty . I'm not a huge sashimi fan so can't speak to that too much my hubby loved it. And the fish I did eat was lovely and approachable for a non fish lover. And plenty alternative options all tasty. There were some hit a miss but more so just for my tastes. Cute little set up inside just would like little.more light at our table near the front and slight more privacy between tables would be great . The staff are superb , attentive and very friendly. Only reason this isn't 5/5 was the table spacing and there is only one card machine so a little wait to all tables paying at the same time post meal. Also it's very expensive imo compared to similar places we ate abroad Highly recommend though as a special treat
The service was nice, lovely helpful staff. I'd rate 50% of the dishes as delicious, but the other half tasted plain. The round of different sake is served at extra cost. Not what u would expect for that price. The dark interior gives a cosy vibe indeed, but in general it doesn't feel like a high quality design. Example, ceramic dishes instead of some plastics would deliver better impression. And hold temperature for longer. All together it is an interesting experience, especially some flavours amaze, but it is not something I'd be rushing to repeat, given the price.
A bit of a disappointment for the four of us I’m afraid. It lacked the wow experience and was overpriced, see photo. I spent a lot more than this in Chapter One earlier this year and that was Wow.Food: 3/5
I realise now that I've never really tasted fish before. A beautiful combination of flavors, textures and colors, all presented so gorgeously. The saki was delicious and pared wonderfully with the food on recommendation from the friendly servers. Such an escape and Immersion in Japanese culture with a local Irish touch. I would love to come back for the new menu every month!
i don't know. guess it just doesnt live up to the hype. oyster, sushi, and appetizer platter were pretty wow. then it was just okay after okay. yoghurt foam dish was great but then there was stray star anis thing that ruined my mouth. it's the most expensive michelin i've gone to yet and it was only okay.Food: 3/5
Nice restaurant, cozy, clean and elegant. The service was good and the staff very friendly. Definitely an upscale place but with a very relaxed armosphere. We were a party of 3 people and we went for the 12 courses menu. Most of the dishes, especially at the start, were definitely 5 stars some were just good. The food is fresh and flavours perfectly balanced. Great attention to details for the presentation. The bathrooms are 5 stars too . To drink we had some good sake and japanese beer. Overall I am very happy with this dining experience and I will definitely come back when the new menu comes out they update the menu roughly every 5 weeks. In total we spent 430euro which is a little overpriced but this restaurant is definitely worth to try.
