Lovely friendly welcome from all staff we came into contact with. Gardens well maintained. Lovely relaxing stroll round well posted routes highlighted on on free map. There is one walk through a no return turnstile gate to beach. Church has a lot of history with the Grey family. Many being buried there. The tea rooms are well managed, clean and affordable. Fresh tasty food/cakes and beverages. Spent 4hrs here and still had plenty more to explore. Playground: No playground. Restrooms: Clean positioned next to cafe and information centre. Dog-friendliness: Only guide dogs allowed. Picnic area: Did not notice picnic areas in grounds but there were some in car park area.
More like a 10 star place to visit. The woodland garden was absolutely breathtaking! Let alone the arboretum leading to the sea and the garden borders around the house. Definitely worth a visit! They do garden tours on a Friday and Monday, but as they use volunteers, this is not guaranteed. The wide range of plants and trees is spectacular. I just wish they had a plant shop. Also, you must visit the visitors center, it has so much information about what has been planted, how the garden came to be and it is all laid out in an easy to absorb way. Too be honest, I normally get a bit bored in visitors ctrs. The cafe has lovely sandwiches esp the ham and cheese and jacket potatoes, which goes beautifully with a cup of Earl Grey. But, unfortunately the cakes were a bit dry and they don't offer salads. I was staying near by and I visited at least 3 times. It is so much nicer than Alnwick gardens, which was such a disappointment.
Lovely location. Lucky find, whilst we were up over the Easter break. Tearooms are also lovely and do vegan options. Scones were awesome and massive. Sensory garden for people with Autism was particularly nice. We only had an afternoon, but you could happily spend a whole day here.
Beautiful gardens ,something for everyone. Well set out for wandering around. Well pathed for easy walking with prams or wheelchairs. No dogs allowed. The Earl Grey Tearoom is lovely . The cakes are to die for and a lovely selection of teas to choose from.
Amazingly beautiful! The plants and trees are fantastic the ground walks are easy to get round mainly flat marked out clearly and there is so much to look at if you love the outdoors and trees. The sensory garden is a lovely added touch.Only £8.80 for the day totally worth it. I'll definitely be returning.
A hidden gem. Visit the home of Earl & Lady Grey, of the tea fame. You can enjoy a walk in the vast Arboretum on the Estate, with the many planted special gardens along the route. This place is vast & you will need at least two visits to do the whole Arboretum justice. After your walk, you can enjoy a cup of tea & a scrummy cake in the lovely restaurant in an old part of the house. You will be back....I promise you....
A relaxed, calm and beautiful place slightly off the beaten track in Northumberland with a beautiful house and amazing gardens and grounds that you can just get lost for an hour or so. The cafe on site is lovely; lunchtime meals are delicious and there is no air of pretentiousness anywhere. Highly recommended.
A lovely place to spend a day wandering around the gardens and enjoying nature. We even had the wild deer cross our paths in the woodland. Lovely tea room with home maid evades and the original Earl Grey Tea.
Very natural garden with work/planting in progress in different areas. Sensory garden was delightful. Food in the cafe was excellent - good choice, home made with good portions.
Lovely cakes in the tearoom. Inc great vegan ones. Grounds are extensive but very informal. You can walk for miles! When all the Rhododendrons are out it will be amazing.
