Our mother Margaret has just spent three weeks in an emergency winter bed in Howden Care Centre. She is now in permanent care in Whitley Bay. The home was brilliant. The staff were all so kind and caring. Food was very good. Her single en suite room was warm and cosy and had a tv. The family really appreciated the care the staff afforded mam. We would recommend it. January 2023.
i live somewhat near by. an old lady managed to escape one day when i was passing by she was trying to visit her husband whos in hospital or something, and the nurses were trying to get her back in. i cuddent help much so i just kept walking. they staff were pretty friendly, just trying to convince her. my granma however lives nearby and got involved. LSS they got her back in and i got to hear how she planned her escape she sat by the door and kept watching the staff go in and out and kept track of the buttons they clicked. she waited for her chance and went for it. i just found that funny and wanted to leave this here.
My father in law spent the last 5years of his life in Howdon care home. They were wonderful. The staff genuinely care about the residents and bend over backwards to help them. Sadly, Allan passed away a few years ago. If we had our time over again, we would without doubt put him in Howdon.
Mum was out into here as an NHS winter bed for rehab before going home following a hip fracture. She was here a couple of days and I got a call to say she had fallen and injured her recently damaged hip trying to get out of bed. She reportedly had shouted for help but no one responded and she dragged herself to the door of her room and kept shouting but waited a long time, this is probably due to a lot of the patients in there are shouting for help and seem to be ignored . I witnessed this when I went in to collect all her belongings to head back to cramlington hospital to start the whole process again. My mum is 94 so this kind of set back could be more than just a set back. Needless to say she won’t be going back there
Staff are wonderful, caring, friendly and very approachable. Top class care home. It really does feel like ‘home’ when you enter.
Currently staying here after an accident, leaving me with limited use of my arms. The staff and management are wonderful people who cannot do enough to help the residents under what can be very challenging circumstances. Ive nothing but praise and admiration for the hard working and caring staff and I should know as Im seeing it first hand! You are simply the best..THANK YOU all. Tracy Hancock
Never answer phone EVER. No matter what day or time or what extension you use. Nightmare if you are traveling distance to find the home is locked down due to illness. I would challenge anyone to get an answer ANYTIME.
A care provider is supposed to do just that, care. They aren't supposed to abandon. Abandonment so much so that a person has a quick and dramatic decline and simply cannot recover from the negligence. To make it all worse, we found that said care provider has a staff member that steals from those they are supposed to be caring for. Covid isolation created a perfect scenario, where family couldn't visit, so the staff member had ample opportunityies. I urge you if you have a family member going here by choice or direct from hospital to go elsewhere.... anywhere but here. Howdon care centre were negligent in providing care to our family member who simply was unable to recover. Their failure to provide the basic level of care stole valuable time from our family member and from our family, something that we will never be able to forgive and we would not want anyone to go through the same. Footnote: when trying to submit a negative review direct on their company web page, they stated in email "unfortunately they were unable to process it, without me calling them to authenticate it", why would anyone who has lost someone because of their incompetence want to go into further dialogue. How ridiculous. 18/8 As per your response - you are aware of our complaint as per the discussions with your provider and the social care team. I was unable to leave negative review on your Web page without ringing you, something which I have no intention of doing - as per above. It is clear you hide away from negative press / reviews - I assume this is so you can hide the truth of your failings. This review is to warn others not to put the people they love dearly into your care... if you could call it care that is. We call it theft, abandonment and negligence.
More like Howdon dont-care centre! My nanna was left with an upgradeable bed sore and dehydration and deteriorate so much in her 19 days here until she was returned to hospital! She passed away 2 weeks later! When we got her stuff back someone had taken £47 from her purse. Absolute disgrace!!
If I could leave zero stars I would they don't deserve 1 my uncle was left dirty uncomfortable and when we asked for help the carer started to argue back with us! Then when he has passed items have gone missing out of his room and we are having to ring to chase thing up as not one person has tried to reach out and help us!
