The care at Glangwili General, from A&E to the Wards was exceptional. It helps with your mental health when attending hospital to be taken care of so well. Especially for a weekend. Thank you to all the Consultants, GP, Nurses, Porters, Kitchen, the new doctors and wider staff for making your place run so efficiently. My stay was exceptional. God bless you all. I'm on a recovery and pray that the service will always remain the same. Thank you
Dreadful. Waited 5 hours plus for medication to enable discharge. Dressing not changed. Told to get done at surgery. Surgery closed by the time medication arrived. Some staff really nice helpful. Others very rude. Shouldn't be in the job. If it was a private workplace would be sacked. NHS needs a big overhaul. Many nurses just standing around laughing, joking and chatting. Not a lot of nursing going on.
Absolutely awful. I brought my 6 years old son with 40 degrees fever, dehydrated and vomiting and was asked to wait and refused to give him any water. After waiting 1.5.hours a compassionate A&E doctor was passing by, she saw my son lying on my lap and she took us in without triage. Bless her! She directed us straight to the children ward. Even though staff there was very kind and attentive, they didn't diagnose my son at all. They gave us ibuprofen and send us home. To quote the consultant about my son: he doesn't look unwell to me. We came back the very next day with severe dehydration, high fever and exhaustion. My son was seen by 3 consultants and none of them diagnose him properly. No drip was given for dehydration, no tests but more ibuprofen. Last pediatrician spotted lumps on the neck of my son but didn't diagnose glandular fever. Only a month later when a thorough blood tests were ordered by GP, the glandular fever was confirmed. My son has post-infection anemia and long recovery in front of him thanks lack of competency of doctors in children ward who knocked him down with antibiotics instead of antiviral medication and not being able to diagnose him properly. Take your child elsewhere if you can, it is a dangerous and incompetent ward.
Just wanted to say how grateful we are to the staff in the hospital for the care they provided to my father. In particular, I'd like to thank Raymond Davies and the staff on Dewi Ward - they were outstanding! Thank you!
Cannot fault my visit here whilst on holiday. I was seen within an hour of arriving at a&e. Within the next hour I saw an ent consultant and given a bed on a ward. Food was good, staff exemplary.
My Welsh wife and I moved back into West Wales to enjoy our retirement after illustrious careers in the NHS in different specialties in the South East of England. I attended for a MRI at Glangwili General Hospital on Saturday 11th March 2023. It was such a wonderful experience to be welcome, guided along by amazing staff from beginning to end. As I walked down long corridors, looking for my directions, staff noticed and enquired how they could help me and went out of their way to allay my anxieties. An equally kind, friendly and professional female, radiographer met me, requesting to fill up a health and safety form, explained everything clearly before guiding me to lay on the couch encircled by the MRI machine. She kept me reassured at different stages when the procedure was about to begin etc. It lasted about 20 minutes I reckon, another young female was on hand to help me out of the couch safely when it was over. The whole experience would equal or even better what one would expect in the private healthcare sector! We are so fortunate to be living in such a friendly country away from the hustle and bustle of life in England ! How I wish our younger close relatives struggling to make ends meet in the so called “posh” areas of Surrey pay heed to move out of the rat race to join NHS in Wales saying goodbye to their ungrateful managers in the NHS in England! It’s credit to the senior management in NHS Wales for valuing staff and retaining the dedicated staff ! They do not know what they miss ! I go as far as asserting that young children would have a better future being educated in Welsh schools with smaller class sizes! To cap it all, we have one of the best Members of Senedd in Mr Adam Price ! Wales for Ever! Cymru Am Byth ! Sunil Dharmabandhu
On entering the hospital for treatment also a one night stay i have to say was a very pleasant experience, the staff were busy but made you feel welcome, my procedure was carried out excellently ,on being taken back to the ward had first class food ,saw my consultant in the morning and discharged later that ,fantastic service thank you one and all .
Great care and attention give by all staff in A and E and the CDU ward. A very busy day night, but 100%given by everyone with lots of empathy.
Absolutely shocked at the lack of care shown to my granddaughter who has been sitting on a chair for 38 hours in A&E with a canula in her arm and been told not to eat or drink......when my daughter rang to find out what was going on she was told that they were busy in the department. I totally understand this but to then make my granddaughter feel so degraded by telling and showing her how busy they are and throwing in a "if you have inflammation you will get treated...if not you will be sent home" I really hate to complain but what on earth is going on . How can a caring profession be so uncaring. The canula has been left without being flushed out and my granddaughter hasn't had any liquid for all this time. She is left feeling as if she is being a nuisance!
Many nurses and doctors are lazy, rude, incompetent, and negligent, yet they're protected by an institution that would rather have dangerous staff than no staff. This hospital is a disgrace and has been for decades.
