About

Holy Cross Catholic Sixth Form College & University Centre

Story

Principal: Mr D H Frost

Holy Cross is a specialist A level College and University Centre
.
Sixth Form College

Holy Cross provides education for A Level students from 16 + and has a long track record of nationally outstanding results. 2014 results saw an overall pass rate of 98% with 51% achieving A*, A or B grades. It has been in the top ten colleges nationally for A Level results for the past nine years. Holy Cross also has a first rate system of pastoral care and support. It is smaller and more friendly than many large FE colleges, but still big enough to feel rather different from schools. Holy Cross currently has over 2000 students studying a wide range of A Level subjects.

University Centre

Holy Cross offers a range of degree courses which are made possible by our partnership with our universities (Liverpool Hope, Edge Hill, Newman, Salford and St Mary's, Twickenham). There are approximately 600 students currently studying for a degree. Studying for a degree at Holy Cross offers; a low cost alternative to other universities, flexibility to study in the evenings whilst continuing with other life commitments, a strong student support system, the opportunity to study locally and save on expensive living costs, and of course the ability to achieve great results - 82% gained first or 2.1 classifications in 2014.

Mission

Holy Cross, founded by the Daughters of the Cross, is a Catholic Sixth Form College and University Centre, which exists to provide a high quality education within a community based on Gospel values. We provide the opportunity for each person to develop spiritually, morally and intellectually, and we welcome students and staff of all faiths.

I went here for 2 years and i can thoroughly say that this college is the worst thing to ever happen to my mental health. The teachers don't care about your mental health, and will kick you out if you don't get the grades they want. I can thoroughly say at least 6 times in my first year where i tried to drop out. I hated this college, and i wouldn't recommend it to anyone. stay clear!! If you are a parent helping your child pick their next college, I would recommend ANYTHING other than that. Asda would have been a better option for my heart burn. This place is hell here on earth.
This college lie’s to parents about kids not attending lessons and sends messages to parents but in reality the teachers keep cancelling lessons I have proof day after day my daughter is on 64% attendance because of them poorly run college
The atmosphere is awful as teachers don't support their students but, instead, they put a lot pressure on them! What is more, they 100% pasa rate is because they kick out the student who don’t perform as well as they should after a first year. What is worth to acknowledge is that they do not do the official AS Exams, just the internal examinations so if students will not pass it they are forced to leave the college with no qualification after a whole year of studying. It is a myth of that the college is good as according to the newest Ofsted report they are ranked as 3 like Bury College. It is not an achievement to collect all good students from High Schools and be proud of their fantastic results, the achievement is when the college do make a ordinary student outstanding.
Terrible learning atmosphere for college students. Don't think it's good for A-Levels, it's not. Staff put a huge amount of pressure on students and the only reason for the high pass rate is because failing students are kicked out, rather than supported. The college tries to assume to an old-fashioned traditional approach, which sounds good on paper, but is only an excuse for the staff to "demand respect" in a weird and insecure attempt to control students. Was good around 5 years ago when it was in the top 10, but is only going downhill.
Great college, good atmosphere.
Both daughters attend. Excellent college sixth form and uni
