Last year, I attended this college to retake my English exam. I am grateful for the dedication of Patti Riley, English teacher, who exuded respect and kindness. Her commendable demeanor and pleasant personality made studying the subject enjoyable. Patti demonstrated exceptional professionalism, diligence, and sincerity in her approach to teaching, showing genuine care for all her students. I highly value and appreciate her unwavering efforts to ensure the success of each student. The exceptional qualities of friendliness, hardworking attitude, and trust that Patti demonstrates in her teaching are remarkably valuable, and are not commonly found among English teachers Patti is committed to helping individuals who lack fluency in English language who want to have ambitions to progress in their professional lives.
I had the pleasure of supporting teachers in lectures across the college as part of their education festival July 2023. It’s the third time I’ve had the pleasure of working with staff across the college; they are working really hard to achieve the best outcomes for their students.
Started here in Feb 2024 as an IT Technician. studied here from 2000 -2004. Have to say I am enjoying the new environment, new team, supportive team, happy environment and welcoming too, feel one of the team and valued, importantly. Thought I'd share that! To whoever reads it, its out there
DO NOT go if you have any kind of disability. The staff always treat you like a extra person and they do not provide you with any extra help. They will be very nice when you’re applying but then everything changes when you start going to college
Bruh this college had me waiting for months, promising I was a good fit, and then suddenly changed their minds right before the course started after I’ve filled paperworks and everything. Talk about a letdown! Definitely not the kind of experience you want when you're trying to further your education.
Hello! I am currently a Student at Bury College in my first year as of writing this review. I really enjoyed my time at Bury College so far and the tutors I have are really nice. Although some of the students are a bit annoying, That is typical at any education establishment. The food is not the greatest so I do have to knock off a star, but there is easy access to the town centre to get some good scran. It is also really easy to get to, only requiring a short tram ride to get there. The SEN department have been very helpful and I would certainly reccommend this to any of my children. Also some of the reviews are a little bit outdated as being over 5 years old does not really paint a proper picture of the college. The size of the college can be quite confusing especially where your lessons are, but after a while, You will figure it all out. My advice, Choose the course you like the most as getting stuck in the wrong course can be a little bit embarassing, and hard to move off.
The course I took has provided a platform for me to start working, but it definitely needs a revamp. INFASTRUCTURE TECHNICIAN course provides a very basic base for working in the industry, they teach you small amounts of each aspect of the role. Emphasis on customer service, providing a test software for logging calls and a serious update In exams is in dire need. For example, one of the topics covered in the exams is Cloud Computing which is a 50 Mark multiple choice exam with minimal resources to cover this. There are great staff within the IT Services department however, who helped tremendously throughout my stay at the college, Which has to be highlighted. They were let down by 1/2 inadequate teachers who were not up to standard for the course, one left 4 weeks before our final submission and left us in a position where our whole class had to fast track half of the Unit to get it in for deadline day. This was frustrating from a student point of view but undermines the overall experience with the tutors at the college which are generally great. With a big change to the course and more funding to the department this would be a fantastic experience but personally I felt I could of had during my experience. Of course this is a student point of view from one course so this does not display a full display of the college and it’s contents. They should focus more on developing the departments they already contain instead of spending millions on a new building.
The students here are still down to bully someone based on what they wear, how they talk or what they look like. When I talk in class I get laughed at and nothing is resolved even when I talk to someone about it.
I am a student currently at bury college and have been since 2020 and my experience has been rocky and I will explain why now . Firstly we will start with the positives . The higher-standing staff are very friendly and welcoming and will greet you with a kind “morning “ whenever we walk in and the security is impeccable I must say even the head of Bury college manages to make me smile when I enter bury college and so do all the other staff who will joke with me when I walk in and I appreciate that keep it up . However we move on to some of the negatives , In my current course that I am studying I have experienced a mix of treatments involving nasty , pessimistic and degrading behaviour and attitude towards students .I will not name and shame any staff as I already have done that way too much recently I have been subjected to some rather sly behaviour involving that of one of my tutors advising my mates not to hang round with me as I am “ a bad influence “ and I feel I should inform you all that I am on the autistic spectrum and may not communicate in what people class as sensible however my mates come to me distressed about how the tutors treat me as I am very unaware and dozy so I don’t notice this stuff but when I do I realise that not only are my class mates and I treated like infants and belittled but we are also seen as irrelevant and insignificant in comparison to those who have more capabilities then us and as a result of this despicable behaviour displayed by adults can I say I am now prone to stress-induced breakdowns and that’s not only I saying that . As a fellow adult I feel as if I am in charge of my fellow youngsters on my course as they are under the impression that no adult who’s in charge really cares for them and that’s unbelievably shocking . I’m conclusion if you are planning on sending your youngster or you yourself are planning on coming to bury college don’t get me wrong you will be welcomed with open arms on the exterior but when it comes to the interior you may experience mentally distressing behaviours from those who you should trust , you may also develop some mental conditions but the pastoral team will be there for you ….but be careful of some of the tutors they may join in the bullying and enhance the pain you are already enduring on a day to day basis . thank you for taking your time to read .
Brilliant tutors, they go above and beyond helping you on your learning journey. The canteen always has a range a freshly prepared lunch options. The library and staff are the crowning jewel of Bury college, the libarians are always ready to help in anyway they can. They give useful, detailed help on practically every subject; I'd be lost without them ... thank you
