I have nothing but good things to say. The staff are absolutely incredible, very passionate about teaching & understanding of your concerns etc. Recruit safety & wellbeing was always a priority for the staff. Militarisation can be daunting ,but you get professional guidance through everything you undertake. Fellow Recruits wore very friendly & by the end of our training we felt apart of one big family. If yourself or a loved one are attending Raleigh rest assured you’re/they’re in very good hands.
Joined December 1969 having left home for the first time and found it strange at first because of the limitations place upon you. After 2weeks Christmas Holiday?? it was fairly easy to get back to being trained to life in the RN.After 6 weeks basic training I transferred to HMS Collingwood. I think that the spell at Raleigh help to mould me into what I am today.
Amazing food and really comfy beds and clean bedding ! ESS Staff are really friendly and love there jobs always give u really massive portions of food. Food I would say is on par with Gordon Ramsey.PE teachers are really polite and down to earth. Everyone is treated at the same standard and no special treatment is given to some.
I remember not liking my basic training for the RN as I was only 16 and very homesick. However my time at sea was phenomenal and looking back it was one of the very best experiences of my life. If you're thinking of joining up - I'd recommend it if your happy to be away from home for long periods of time.
Basic in all respects, but it was 1966 It was very basic living in those awful wooden huts.Cold damp and always buffing the floor. Swimming in water tanks used for fire fighting during WW2. Everting seemed as it must have been in WW2. Even canteen and cinema.
What can I say about this place. But what an amazing place it is. Son's pass out parade was yesterday and I have never seen him so happy. Thank you to all the staff that have helped him through his 10 week basic training.
I took my friend Sandy to see her grandson passing out into the navy his mother cried his grandmother was very moist around the eyes it was a brilliant day the royal marine band was perfect as usual such an honour to be there well done HMS Raleigh pardon the pun but you rallied to the cry
Was here back in July 1972 and enjoyed basic training, and have been looking for class photos but no luck yet..
Amazing food and the staff were so friendly. Would definitely go again in future.... ‍
