The disabled toilet still has the emergency cord tied so that it is not accessible to anyone in a wheelchair and way out of reach for someone who has fallen. Knots are too tight to undo again.nUPDATE: they have now “solved the problem” by removing the cord altogether and leaving the ceiling switch in an unsafe condition. See new photos.nThe canopy over the waiting area is very short with gaps between the glass tiles. It seems to have been designed to ensure you get the maximum benefit of being wet when it rains.nThe kiosk has shut and inside waiting area is generally dirty.
Pleasant bus station with a waiting room and customer information screen, also a toilet but this does close at 5.30 pm - seems a bit short sighted - shouldn't this close when the last bus has gone through may be 7 pm ish can understand closing it due to potential vandalism but when buses are running it should be open??? A modern terminus with toilets that could be cleaner, a recently summer 2023 reopened kiosk selling snacks and hot and soft drinks and a waiting room. Good bus connections to Newcastle and Carlisle and country bus connections to the Allen and North Tyne valleys. Occasional services to other places, including Alston and Consett.
This bus station has public toilets open from 8.00 - 19.00 including disabled.nNew freshly made coffee and tray bakes shop open 8.30 16.00.
Free parking on Sundays at this car park, not a large car park but well situated wthin walking distance from the shops and main street.
