I recently rented an electric car for a day in London from Hertz and I was very dissatisfied with the experience. When I arrived at the Marble Arch branch, the manager was training a new employee, and I had to wait until the training was finished before being served. Fortunately, the wait was short. After explaining everything to me, they asked me to sign off on the vehicle's damages. However, the car was in the garage, so they had me sign off on damages without seeing or inspecting the vehicle together. They just told me to take pictures in case I found any additional damages. I signed on a tablet, was told where the damages were, but I never actually saw them; I was just told to sign. When I went down to the garage to pick up the car, there was an attendant in a booth. He was sitting comfortably, messaging on his phone. He didn’t greet me and when I said good morning and showed him my receipt, he gave me a dirty look as if I was bothering him. Without saying a word, he handed me the keys and continued messaging. There were at least 30 other cars in the garage, so I had to find the car on my own. I regret having to disturb the booth attendant. The next day, when I returned the car, no one checked for damages. When I asked if we needed to inspect the car together, since I hadn't taken out full insurance and didn’t want any surprise charges, the attendant asked if I had any accidents. When I said no, he told me not to worry. I’m still waiting for my deposit refund. Hertz not only has high prices but also terrible customer service. I will definitely not be renting a car from Hertz again. It’s a shame because I rent cars frequently and they have a great fleet.
My partner and I recently rented a car from The Marble Arch location. Although the man was friendly he immediately wanted us to buy extra insurance. We told him we had booked online and had everything paid in full. He seemed frustrated, he messaged someone asking them if they had our car. Then he told us he didn't have the car we reserved but would be able to give us a different one. My partner didn't have a problem with that until he found out the other car would cost us more. We said that we had reserved the car and if they gave it away they should give us another one at the same cost. He told us he can't do that. It was only when my partner threatened to call customer service he said he would have another look and "miraculously' they found our car. I believe they did this because we wouldn't pay for extra options and insurance. I'm now reading reviews which I should have done beforehand and seeing that this is the way they do business. We will definitely think twice before renting from Hertz again.
Good value for money have used for several holidays as it is close to my home . Misha has always been very helpful and convinced us to upgraded to some beautiful cars that I have really enjoyed driving . Thanks Aidan pickton
I was extremely disappointed with their service. Upon returning the vehicle, I was informed that there were small scratches on the bumper < 2.25 cm and the wheel rim < 1.25 cm. For these minor damages, they wanted to charge us for £678 the final charge was slightly different but roughly the same amount. This is completely unreasonable and feels like an exploitation of customers. Additionally, when I tried to dispute the charges by contacting customer service, I received no response. I would not recommend Hertz to anyone based on this experience.
It was good. The only thing was the staff told me there was no cars available at the moment even though I booked successfully, after like 10 minutes waiting there’s one available showed up. Overall, everything is fine.
Paid for my rental months in advance. When I got to the counter in London the guy tells me I don't have insurance. I did pay for the insurance and had paid everything in full. He tells me he can't rent me the car unless I get insurance. He also told me you can't buy the insurance online you can only reserve the car and must get insurance the counter. This is not true because when I got home I pretended to make another reservation and I was able to buy the insurance. Because I was with family I wound up buying the insurance again. When I brought the car back everything was fine except for a bit of dirt. Days later I'm charged for some imaginary damage that never occurred. DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ this is a scam they do to upsell and rip people off. Reading the other reviews here I can see it's happened to others as well.
I rarely write reviews, but felt like I needed to share my experience about Hertz. On arrival, we had a relatively smooth pick up, it was disgruntling that our Customer Service Representative had upsold us on insurance and on upgrading a vehicle, but we managed to get by with only paying for the insurance. As a Canadian driver, we operate our vehicles on the right side of the road, so I had asked the vehicle dispatcher for a quick run-down of the vehicle. He didn't seem interested in our question and had informed us that "we had the full damage protection, so as long as we don't fill the car with diesel or lose the key then we were okay" not very helpful. We were grateful that our car functioned well during our trip, however when we tried to return our car and coming back to Canada is when we received a few fines that were a result of Marble Arch's poor customer service. We had incurred 3 fines! 1 - a one-way return fee, 2 - a congestion fee, and 3 - a bus lane contravention fee. The first two fees could have been avoided if Hertz had been more informative, the third was our mistake. When booking online and at the time of pick up, we were informed that the location closed at 6 p.m. However, when we arrived by 6 p.m., we discovered—through a local resident and other customers experiencing the same issue—that the location had actually closed at 4 p.m. It appears this mistake happens frequently, as two other customers were in the same situation when we arrived. Since Marble Arch closed significantly earlier than we were told, we were frantic and were forced to make our drop off at Heathrow Airport. Because of this, we incurred a one-way fine of £83.33. Additionally, we were charged a congestion fee that could have been easily avoided had the representative informed us about the £14 daily charge for driving in central London. Given that we were clearly tourists—he even engaged us in conversation about Canada and Niagara Falls—it is concerning that he failed to mention this important detail, resulting in an unnecessary and substantial charge. The fee was £90 + £42 administration fee. I believe both the one-way fee and the congestion fee were unfairly incurred due to the incorrect or incomplete information provided by your customer service representative. Renting a car was supposed to make our trip easier, however with all of these incidents with Hertz, I wish I had read the reviews more thoroughly and considered other car rental companies.
Absolutely no customer service from this company! Hertz website clearly stated that London congestion charge is paid by Hertz for the first day of rental and It was not the case for us. We got a fine and now Hertz is charging us £90 fine plus £45 administration fee which we are very unhappy with. And when we called customer service, no one is helping at all. They just took our money from our credit card. absolutely rip off!
ZERO star if I can give ZERO. I try hire a PCO car 3 times here on the weekend and all 3 times have issues with collection, which 2 times I have no car to drive away!!!! Waste of time and waste of travelling money into Marble Arch!!!!! They will not improve even I complained couple times!!! Take it or leave it attitude from customer service on a Monday morning asking why no car to collect!!!! Absolutely ridiculous!!!! Disgraceful!!!!
I booked a Defender or similar vehicle, I was shown a Yukon via email for booking confirmation, however when I reached the location they claimed that a F pace is all they can offer, it is a completely different vehicle that doesn’t fit 4 big suitcase as per the reservation details. Upon asking for my booked vehicle, Juhior was bold enough to claim that F-pace is my reservation category even when my reservation shows a bigger vehicle while booking and in email conference, in attempts if shaking more money for a bigger vehicle I was asked “do you work here?” hertz followed by “you should do research before booking” I have travelled all over the world with countless rentals from Hertz, I feel bad for recommending this agency to my friends and co workers because of this pathetic experience. I can’t believe these humans are ok leaving foreigners without a mode of transportation in greed of £300 for a bigger vehicle. Juhior was so embarrassed of what he was doing as per instructions from Jose that he even didn’t want to tell his name till I brought out my camera for recording how he was behaving with loyal President Circle clients of hertz!!
