Thought a tad expensive especially with consideration to a change over of galleries , and two load talking ladies gave one of the far galleries a distinct non library feel whilst trying to enjoy an African American Artists perspectives with colour and motion , such beautiful paintwork shouldn't be disturbed . A privilege nonetheless to witness Margaret's working methods . Which actually justified the money . Stunning architecture of the building is worth a visit alongside the well spaced garden full of surprises , thank you for the experience . All will take something positive for going I recommend pulling out the draws under the viewing casements, trust me all those tiny things your art / design teachers were telling you , examples are all there . Felt like running home and getting my paint brushes out
I stayed at Wakefield as I was exploring day before Yorkshire sculpture park and decided to visit art gallery on Sunday. Such a delightful gem!I absolutely loved exhibitions, and quiet and peaceful time first at morning. Had whole gallery to myself! I would put art photo for you here, but no point-go and see! Support art, support local, support independent! No art photos added -as you need go and check on your own, fully recommended! Pop in to art shop, you can find little
This is one of the best designed galleries in England, its use of natural light creates brightly lit spaces which always show thought provoking exhibitions. The current Kim Lim show is a case in point. Don’t miss the stunning gardens which cleverly mirror the gallery and display some sculptures too see whilst relaxing amongst the lush planting.
If you want modern art and sculptures at their best, you need to come to the Hepworth. The description of the production of the sculptures is one of the most fascinating parts of the exhibition. An excellent companion for a visit to the David Hockney exhibition in Salt's Mill, Saltaire.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
A busy and happy place, full of engagement, ideas, and space to enjoy what they want to show you. The things were sometimes oftnly meticulous but wonderous. By the end I was spanked out. Well done all of you! And thang you again.Visited onWeekendWait time1 hr+Reservation recommendedNot sure

Had a great time, stayed around 2 hours exploring the exhibitions, the cafe was particularly nice
Visited on a Saturday & Sunday and no special event so free entry if Wakefield resident with ID proof, but donations accepted. Lots of adults and families. Disabled parking by Gallery, payable parking for anyone else across the road or nearby. Children's themed crafts downstairs which are great for little ones to get involved. Various pictures and sculptures upstairs for featured exhibits. Cafe on site offering drinks, snack and light lunches until 3pm, toilets near main entrance too. Great to learn more about some local artists too. Closed every Monday.
Absolutely amazing place, with friendly staff and great activities! We visited today on a whim thinking it wouldn't be all that, but I was very wrong! We visited the gardens when the kids made dens and drew pictures of flowers, and then went inside where we all used our drawings to inspire bigger art pieces. Free for Wakefield residents, and £12 if you live elsewhere well worth it!! Has a cafe and a nice gift shop, and you can even eat your own picnic food on site not inside the cafe, there is a separate area! Please note!!!!!!- There are a few very graphic sculptures and pictures in the gallery upstairs that shows in detail where babies come from. If you haven't yet had this conversation with your children, avoid at all costs this area. They WILL know how childbirth works after this exhibit.
I've been meaning to go to the Hepworth gallery for a long time now, and it did not disappoint at all. The moment you see the building from across the bridge you walk across to get to it, you.know it's going to be special. I was greeted by great staff members who introduced us to the different parts of the exhibition's. The food and drink in the cafe is slightly expensive but the quality of it is great, so it's pretty worth it. The layout of the gallery means you can walk through a range of different rooms in a circle and arrive back where you entered once you've viewed everything. There were some great works inside, including a brilliant photo exhibition from Hannah Starkey that did not fail to disappoint. Parking across the bridge from the gallery is £5 all day and there is a good amount of spaces.
