Health for Life Spinal Wellness Centre

In May 2015, after suffering with pain in my left leg for some weeks, my wife persuaded me to make an appointment with Health for Life. Paul examined my spine and identified a kink in the lumbar region which was nipping the sciatic nerve. He wisely arranged for me to have my spine X-rayed to confirm his diagnosis before commencing a programme of adjustments. This entailed attending the clinic twice a week over several weeks to correct the problem. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that there was no need to remove my clothing and the treatment was painless. I was given exercises to do at home to supplement Paul’s work at the Clinic. I am pleased to say that the sciatica has not returned and, as a bonus, my posture and fitness have both greatly improved. A job well done! A year later, I was experiencing a lot of pain in my left knee which was limiting my ability to walk. As I am 72 years old this was not altogether unexpected bad news. Paul recommended that I should see Jason who had just joined the Clinic as a Physiotherapist. Jason diagnosed osteoarthritis but recommended that I should arrange an x ray at the BGH through my GP to get this confirmed. Jason discovered that my gait was wrong and this was putting undue stress on both knees. He worked on my leg muscles, recommended that I should wear a knee brace and gave me some daily stretching exercises to do. I can now take my dog for a reasonable walk of 3 miles without using the painkillers prescribed by my GP. At Jason’s suggestion, I have recently had a course of hyaluronic injections in my left knee cartilage from a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon. I am optimistic that I may be able to resume hill walking in the New Year. I now attend the Clinic for monthly appointments to maintain my present level of health for as long as possible. I have no hesitation in highly recommending Health for Life and Paul and Jason. They have an excellent knowledge of their professions and both have a nice friendly manner. They explain their proposed treatment plans thoroughly and involve you in the process. Had I not plucked up the courage to seek help in 2015, I am quite sure that I would now be shuffling along with a stick, have a bent back and be experiencing pain in both legs.

When I first started the sessions I was taking pain killers everyday for my migraines and was scared to do any sort of fitness without it causing a migraine, now I can do as much sport as I want without even having to worry about headaches. We first saw Health for Life at the Border Union Show in Kelso, where we had a free assessment with Paul. I found out I had a curvature in my upper spine which was leading to my headaches. I started the sessions and I was going twice a week and I am now going once every eight weeks for a check up. The chiropractor session have cured my migraines and instead of taking pain killers almost every day, I now have lost count when I last needed them. I think Health for Life is a great service and would recommend it to everyone and anyone. It not only cured my headaches it also improved my posture.
