Nice little museum with lots of hands-on exhibits, local history and art. I really enjoyed wandering around and learning all about Hastings and surrounding areas, with so many interesting artifacts. There's also a small art gallery and some natural history. Really well curated, though I did get a bit lost upstairs as the rooms weren't well marked.
An interesting small museum with interesting information on local history. Various artifacts and pictures. Small gift shop attached. A little of the beaten track, but there is a bus that goes from the Stade in the Old town to Bohemia Street where it is located. Parking: There is a large slip road leading of the main road but I did not see any cars parked there.
A fantastic free admission venue steeped in fascinating history and exhibits. The Durbar Room is simply amazing, a room transferred piece by piece from India and reconstructed here within the Museum and Art Gallery. An amazing venue for weddings and special events all encased within a very picturesque building contained within well kept grounds. Great selection of merchandise and wonderfully professional and friendly staff. A real architectural gem combining traditional and modern structures into one building. We'll worth a visit.
Nice little town museum and art gallery with arrays of local artefacts. There are interactive displays and fun activities for kids as well. Definitely a must visit!
A fantastic place, just so much to see. And better yet, it's free.
Excellent small museum with plenty of interesting exhibits exploring many facets of the town's history. I was particularly struck by the impressive Durbar Hall, part of an Indian palace built for the Indian and Colonial Exhibition of 1886 and transferred to its present location in the Museum in the early 1930s. The small shop is also a winner with many inexpensive but quality items suitable for gifts. I have sourced many children's gifts and greetings cards there. Highly recommended.
For a free museum it contains an impressive collection, albeit one that veers from one topic to another with not much connective tissue. The information on the collection does need updated and a broader explanation of the pieces would provide a more involved experience but this, I'm guessing, belies the origins of the museum as a collection donated from an insanely wealthy family whose mother sailed the world with the family, collecting pieces wherever they landed. As such, some elements are only a few pieces with little more than a short card saying what it is and where it's from, whereas other elements have more of a narrative to them about what the pieces were used for, why they were used, etc. I think the staff have done a decent job fleshing out what they have and tying in some local history and artifacts too. Very glad I went in and recommend it if you're in the area.
I went with my 2 year old to the Hastings Museum recently. I was really impressed how they had set up in each room toys, books and interactive activities suitable for young children. I'll definitely be revisiting.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo wait
