First time I have stayed at this hotel and I must say the staff here are amazing. From arriving at the hotel, checking in and throughout my stay, the staff were very helpful and nothing was too much bother. The room was nicely decorated, I would say a little on the small side especially the shower, but had everything I needed for a 1 night stay. I will certainly be looking at staying here again on my work adventures. Thank you for the lovely professional service you provided.
Nice, old fashioned country hotel. Lovely comfortable room with a good en suite, although this had a slightly musty smell. We asked about time for breakfast and were told 0700-0930. The booklet in the room said 0700-1000 and it turned out to be 0700-0945. Needs to be sorted. That said, breakfast was fabulous. The waiting staff were friendly, cheerful, and efficient, and the eggs Royale was perfect. Good value.
One night stay including breakfast plus family Sunday Lunch. Warm friendly and welcoming staff. Clean comfortable room. The Sunday lunch was good value and tasty. There were a couple of things that we needed to prompt/ask for and they were rectified quickly and efficiently. Some of the public areas and gardens could do with a bit of love. Probably a little room for improvement but overall good and would use again. Thank you Rooms: Clean and comfortable Nearby activities: Great location for visiting Durham and Beamish
We went for food on a Saturday evening the place was deadly quiet and when we looked at the menu could easily understand why . The choices were very limited, with no meat options, basically all fish . There were roughly 12 people in the restaurant, and every single person had fish and chips which if I'm honest, wasn't the greatest but the best of a bad menu . One table even left before ordering due to how limited the menu was . Top prices for basic food not great Food & drinks: As above we didn't stay at the hotel
Diamond wedding anniversary lunch here last Saturday. Fabulous from start to finish. Rachel event planner was excellent . Staff attentive and food delicious would highly recommend.Rooms: 5/5
The food was good. The staff were mainly young and apparently very inexperienced and clearly lacking much idea of how to serve in a restaurant. The most egregious example was ignoring us waiting at the bar, clearly preferring to chat to another customer at the other end. Another example was that I was served my starter on a plank of wood which I don't like at all. I asked the waitress if I could have it on a plate instead. She took it away and brought the whole thing back including the plank balanced on a plate - staggering really...
NB. The hotel is now known as 61, Durham. We had a family celebratory lunch one Sunday in June. 15 of us enjoyed a two course roast / fish and chips and dessert. The food was delicious. All of the staff were lovely and were very attentive. This, and being in the garden room, made it feel special.
Very rude person who was obviously something to do with management with no people skills. Their events are a shambles and no help at allService: 1/5
Just dropped in fa Sunday Lunch Really not what it was The soup needed heating up The Dinner was ok veg etc made it but the beef really could have been better. Would love to have seen behind the scenes. Some of the young staff need to concentrate more on detail. A little better guidance would help.
Lovely place to stay. Staff super friendly and welcoming. Food was amazing room and shower very clean and tidy. Only downside was people slamming doors during the night. The gardens are very well looked after and lovely to walk in. Would absolutely visit again
