Not very happy. I picked up a Wynn's cat cleaner priced at £8.49 off the shelf but was charged £11.99 at the till. I returned to the shelf and asked an assistant why I had been overcharged. She looked at the shelf price label and said it had been wrongly labelled as a cheaper injector cleaner in small print at £8.49 in large print but there was nothing she could do about it now. I said the offered price was misleading - something which Trading Standards would object to. She said they wouldn't do anything as the label had a different product printed on it. I said that wasn't fair to expect someone to read the small print and took a picture.nLater I had a closer look - I shouldn't have taken her word that the price label was wrongly placed - the label matched the products behind it - but not the product I had picked up from that position. I went back there to solve the mystery. It seems that the correct price position and label was there but empty of product at the end of a lower shelf. The product I picked up had been incorrectly placed at the front of the injector cleaner bottles at £8.49.
I knew I’d made a mistake the moment Pete the installer casually admitted that the Nextbase dashcam he bought for his own daughter wasn’t hardwired at all, she just plugs it into the 12V socket!!nnThis experience deserves an essay! Not because mistakes happened, but because of the sheer incompetence and denial that followed.nn13th April: I ordered a Road Angel dash cam and booked a professional hardwire installation at Halfords Macclesfield.nn25th April: First fitting appointment. The dash cam itself was faulty apparently!, so I had to return. I am not sure if this is correct or not, as at this point, I hadn't touched the product yet.nn30th April: Second fitting completed. Dashcam finally installed.nnFirst flat battery. Returned to the store concerned there maybe an issue with the hardwiring.nnI was told there were “no problems” and, astonishingly, that they “don’t really have experience with Road Angel, only Nextbase.” Their solution? Buy a Nextbase instead… after I had already spent over £200 on a Road Angel camera and its accessories.nnI was also told they’d “never had anyone come back with battery problems after a dash cam installation.” However, reading the reviews on Google suggests that many customers have sometimes up to 4 visits!nn14th May: Third or fourth flat battery. Returned again. Once more, rather than properly diagnosing the installation, the conversation turned into another sales pitch for Nextbase products.nnDuring this discussion, the gentleman Pete who happened to be the installer admitted that the dashcam he bought for his own daughter Nextbase of course!! wasn’t even hardwired, she uses the 12V socket instead...nnThat was the moment I completely lost confidence. You are employed specifically to install and hardwire dashcams, yet you don’t even trust your own installation work enough to do it on your daughter’s car?nnAt that point I left and decided to investigate the installation myself.nnI checked the fuse box, took photographs and asked several knowledgeable people for their opinion.nnEvery single one immediately identified the same thing: the fuse placement was incorrect.nn15th May: Visited Halfords Congleton for a second opinion.nnWithin FOUR MINUTES, the issue was identified and corrected by Rob.nnFour minutes.nnAfter weeks of inconvenience, multiple flat batteries, repeated visits, wasted time, and repeated attempts to push me toward a different brand instead of fixing the actual problem.nnWhat made this even more unbelievable was being told during my visit to Congleton, Adrian said that Macclesfield is supposedly the training centre for surrounding stores.nnThat statement genuinely worried me.nnRob at Congleton was, at the same time, working on a motorhome installation and still immediately understood and fixed the issue Macclesfield failed to diagnose over multiple visits.nnThe difference in competence between the two stores was night and day.nnCongleton Halfords restored my faith as a first time Halfords consumer and took on the fix having a lot of resourcing issues and running on a skeleton crew that day!nnMacclesfield destroyed my confidence in Halfords completely.nI wouldn’t trust Halfords Macclesfield to replace a windscreen wiper, never mind install hardwired electronics or reversing cameras.nnIf you value your vehicle, your battery and your time, go to Congleton. It’s an 18 minute drive from Halfords Macclesfield with the benefit of being on a retail park with a Costa Coffee have a window shop, go for a coffee.nnEdit: I did call, but the call centre weren't sure what to do either so ended up hanging up on me....
Customer service from Graham was fantastic. I bought wiper blades on Click and Collect and they were fitted expertly in minutes by the mechanic. Cannot fault Halfords Macc. Highly recommend.
Convenient times being open in the evening until 8pm. Helpful and knowledgeable bike staff. Able to get a repair done for me quickly and at a reasonable price. Have used them variously for car accessories, camping gas, kids first bike and a windscreen wiper repair in the past too and the service has always been consistently good.
16/04/26nWent into Halfords Macclesfield this morning to buy Adblue for the first time. Hadn’t got a clue what I was doing but the lady assistant came out, found out where I put it in my car, helped me to pour it in and even cleaned up the drips afterwards. She could not have been more pleasant or helpful and I was so incredibly grateful for her knowledge, efficiency and kindness. Thank you
