Took my Tudor Rolex chronograph watch in to be appraised with a view
to Brown's purchasing it from me.
The watch was complete with box and papers and had been purchased by me 
approx 12 months ago from a very reputable high end watch dealer for
£2,200. I had earlier been offered £1200 by another city jewellers but knowing that Brown's was a Rolex approved dealer I thought I might get a little more for my watch. Imagine the 
Suprise I got when offered only £500.
I checked a site called Chrono 24
Which is a site like ebay but featuring
Only watches. I Noted that there were
two watches for sale identical to mine
both on offer for £2400 in fact one had been sold for £2465.
My question is where the he'll did they get their offer price from I felt offended by their offer.
When I told the lady in the branch that I had been offered £1200 at another
Jewellers she glibly said I would go back and snatch their hands off.
What Brown's did not know was that I was thinking of selling a couple of my watches from my collection and buying a nice Rolex but I will not be 
Purchasing from Brown's. Their offer
for my Tudor Rolex watch brought the Rolex brand into disrepute in my opinion. Lastly I like a lot of old Sheffielders held Brown's in high regard as a local prestige jewellers
but my experience suggest that they have grown into a chain where profit is the main driver. I would have got a more realistic offer from a pawn shop
In fact I did more than double.
Finally I would welcome feedback from H.L.Brown's.

went in this morning to get a watch strap altered as it was too big. All I needed was 5 links taken out, a job which I know only takes 10 minuts as I have had it done previous at other places. I asked about the price as before I have only been charged between £5 and £10 for the whole 5 links taking out. They asked me what make the watch was (which I didn't think made a difference and have never been asked before) and then quoted me £10 PER LINK!! such a ridiculous price. My watch only cost me £100 in the first place which would have meant it would have cost half the watch!! absolutely ridiculous. I wont be returning.
I went somewhere else and got it done for £4.99.
