Wonderful experience for myself as an orthodox Christian. Witnessed a miracle as holy anointing saved my friend's life from an allergy attack.
What a beautiful little jewel, its tiny. We attended a friend's wedding, such a lovely atmosphere. Shame they've built a housing estate round it.
Lovely very old church.
A stunning little church with a great and welcoming community. The priest is also extremely welcoming and very knowledgeable toward the Orthodox Christian faith. I highly recommend
The Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Fathers of Nicaea in Shrewsbury is the oldest sacred worship site still in use in Britain. Recent archaeological work before the building of the housing estate uncovered the remains of a Saxon site and a far older neolithic site beneath that. East of the church is a bronze age barrow and a ring of wooden posts surrounds the church, possibly a ritual enclosure. The Saxon church remains as foundations only, and the medieval church was build on top of these. Much of the structure dates to the early 12th century, with some repairs and additions from later centuries. The current West Wall is Georgian. The church was derelict by the 20th century and it was purchased by the Orthodox Church. The church was finally restored in 1996. The interior is a typical byzantine orthodox church, with oak icon screen and many icons around the walls. The walls feature medieval paintings dating from 1380, including vines and flowers and a depiction of the beheading of Archbishop and saint, Thomas Beckett.
