Grand in name and in nature, hotel is a beautiful building, with various lounge areas and an outside sun terrace which could be amazing if given some TLC. The rooms start at a good size below ground but the higher you get the smaller they get.nnBar service was good, lifts could be bigger for the size of the hotel, and the lack of parking is definitely a negative point. The view from the 3rd floor was not great.nnBeds were clean, a fan, and iron is provided as well as a kettle for coffee nnLocation is great, accessible to the local life and sea in minutes.
Rooms are on the small side, excellent food and the location is fab, unfortunately no parking on site but plenty of car parks, make sure you use the car parks that you get parking concession with.nI had a sea view and the outside window sill is deep and sand collects on it so when you open the window, sand blows into your room.nIn my opinion, the booking in procedure is too long, the queue can stretch through the foyer through the back doors.nThe staff are very friendly and attentive, all in all a really nice place
Based on a one night solo stay where I didn't take advantage of the entertainment or restaurant. It's a well cared for, clean hotel, at least as far up as the third floor where I stayed. My room was clean, decently furnished and had the advertised facilities. It features multiple public spaces, well furnished and attractive - which would make it an excellent UK holiday venue particularly for a group holiday. Don't expect modern and totally faultless - this is a large and old building offering very reasonable rates, so it is doing well to present the offers it does - they encourage you to report any faults, and I feel sure would offer an alternative room if there was a major issue. I booked online for a room advertised as no window - this was actually no sea view, it did have a window opening onto a fairly tidy flat roofed area. Staff were friendly and helpful. Internet is free in the public areas, if you choose to have it in your room you pay for it on a per 24 hour basis, and if using more than one device, need to sign up on a device which can act as a hot spot for the others. It would greatly benefit staff and guests if they could implement a booking in system that allowed any time book in, that didn't give access to your room until the stated time, unless you pay extra for earlier access. It would also be a great benefit if they could offer day bag storage before you have access to your room and on day of departure, at additional charges, given the lack of parking and high cost of this in Scarborough - otherwise you have to find the app that books this with various shops, as there is no facility at the train station either.nI would definitely stay again, it is centrally positioned, on the front, right next to the Victorian Tram you can ride down to the beach.
I do love this hotel. You should not choose this hotel because of the food, since both the morning and evening buffet are quite terrible. Book your stay without breakfast included - they offer the worst scrambled eggs I have ever tasted.nYou should choose this hotel because of its old charm, the view from the terrace. It must be one of the best views in Scarborough.nnAnd choose this hotel due to the hearty staff working there.nnChoose this hotel if you like a grand setting with a cosy atmosphere - and bingo during the evenings - in the ballroom, which most certainly entertained grand people decades ago.nnI have been staying at the Grand Hotel 3 times. I have lost my heart to the hotel and to Scarborough.
Some of the staff wasnRather snappy and grumpy when checking in and at the day time bar . the dinning room staff on the other hand was very pleasant. The food was spot on the gammon I had was beautiful at t time and there was a good choice at evening meal as was at breakfast
