DO NOT PARK HERE! Smart parking is an absolute scam, I wish I had read the reviews before using this car park. It was my first time visiting altrincham, so just followed signs to a car park near the centre, I will never park on this car park again! I received a fine 2 weeks after parking here for overstaying by 7 minutes! I appealed the fine due to over staying for a reason beyond my control. A van had parked far too close to my car. It was that close I couldn’t physically open the rear passenger door to get my 8 week old baby in to her car seat! Luckily I was with my mother, had I had been alone I wouldn’t have known what to do to get my daughter in the car safely. I had parked as far over to the right as I could next to a bollard to allow more room to the left for this reason, then an inconsiderate driver completely blocked my passenger side! My mother had to hold my daughter whilst I reversed out of the space and in the way of the traffic, just so as I could get her safely in her seat. Once she was strapped in the car I pulled back in to the space to allow those who waited for me to pass, I then left immediately after. Smart parking have timed my stay from the time I entered the car park, as opposed to the time I actually parked and purchased a ticket. This is extremely unfair as I drove around for 10 minutes trying to find a parent and child space with no luck. The car park was very full, once I found the only space I was able to park in I paid straight away. They don’t take in to consideration reasons beyond your control. This car park is also not wheelchair or pushchair friendly, there was no disabled access and we struggled with the pushchair up and down the steps to get in and out. They upheld their decision to fine me on the grounds that I should have paid for more time before I left the car park! This wasn’t even something I thought I could do, and also wasn’t in the forefront of my mind as a new mother with an 8 week old baby who was uncontrollably crying whilst I tried to rush strapping her in to a seat in the way of oncoming traffic. It was a stressful situation, I had paid for 5 hours, and didn’t even realise that I had overstayed until I left! There was absolutely no empathy shown by smart parking. Absolutely disgusting way to treat a customer who has paid for a considerable amount of time. Never again! I don’t know how these people sleep at night unfairly ripping people off, especially at a time where the cost of living has made it extremely difficult for people to make ends meet. £60 is nearly a full weeks shopping bill for most people, and that’s what they are charging for overstaying by 7 minutes. £100 if not paid within 2 weeks, it’s sickening.
DO NOT use this car park like everyone said. Watched a movie as it’s across the street from the theatre and came out to a closed car park so now we need to get up early on Saturday at 8am to pick up our car. And of course two Uber rides to get our car.. we should have Ubered it
Avoid at all costs. If you go to the cinema opposite to watch a film in the evening, which ends around 11pm, you'll find your car will be locked in the car park until the next morning. There are no warnings that they close the gates when closing.
Paid for three hours parking, left within two - still got a parking fine had evidence via bank statement. My parking fine letter states I overstayed my parking time.. I’ve appealed and had no response and I’ll be making a complaint to the BPA. Such a scam!!
Do not use this car park. Recently I paid the parking fee and the machine only printed part of my ticket out. I received a parking fine and disputed, but they did not accept my appeal. They have no common sense approach and its just a money making machine. Never ever will I go here again. Take a wide berth.
They locked us in! Now asking money for us even they were in fault and made us wait 2.5 hrs to someone to unlock the gates! Company even said that they locked it 1.5hrs early in purpose. Avoid!!!! No one takes responsibility.
I received a parking fine for £60 three weeks after I had parked at this car park. I had paid £1.80 for 3 hours and displayed my ticket on my windscreen. I am not in the habit of retaining old expired parking tickets. When I received the fine it showed my car arriving at 11:24 and leaving at 12:22 less than an hour I had paid for upto 3 hours. Not wanting the fine to increase from £60 to £100, as it stated would happen if the fine was not paid within 14 days I paid it THEN disputed it with Smart Parking. This was their reply... Good morning, Thank you for your recent email. We note the comments made and we can advise as full payment has been received, full liability has been accepted and this case is now closed on our system. Please be advised there is no appeal process at this stage. Kind regards Smart Parking Ltd They are crooks! It is a private company and they believe they are getting away scott free with this scam but I have reported them to the police for fraud and will not let this drop until they are brought to justice.
Machine not taking card payment, had no money on me so searched my car, found £1.I don’t know the area to look for cash machines. Other people were also struggling to pay. Put the £1 in but I had already wasted 20 mins struggling to pay & search car. Out for 1 hour from payment time. Couple weeks later received a fine , can’t recall but around £60-70. I replied informing them the machines were not working appropriately, I paid £1.00 for an hour.however paid the fine as I only had 2 weeks before the fine increased and was unsure how long I would receive a reply. The reply was received approx 2 weeks, stating I Must of been aware I was in the wrong as I paid the fine. I paid as I did not want an increase due to only having 2 weeks. Terriable customer support and car park. Avoid
Do not use this car park for the Vue cinema opposite. They shut the gates at 11.30pm so any films starting around 8pm and beyond you'll possibly get your vehicle locked in.
I parked in this awful car park in February and entered the incorrect registration when taking up the free three hours for using TotalFitness for my son’s swimming lesson. I’ve been trying ever since to speak to someone at Smart Parking or POPLA to have this PCN cancelled. The whole system is set up so that you can’t truly contest it or speak to anyone to explain what happened or reason with them. Honestly, avoid this car park and avoid any car park owned by the crooks that are Smart Parking - be smart, avoid. Rip off Britain at its worst even if they are Australian owned.
