Favourite cafe in Guildford, often drop by for breakfast or a light lunch. Priced reasonably for the portion sizes and Guildford town centre location, and generally have a good selection of changing cakes and sweets on offer. Prefer the sandwiches, toast with scrambled eggs or the quiche which comes with generous portions of salad. Not the *best* eggs royale I've had the Hollandaise needs work. They're popular, so seating can be difficult to get and some items run out. They've recently renovated to add more bar style seating though.
Usually don't buy coffee because we have a coffee machine but popped in to get a Mocha. DELICIOUS! Best Mocha I've ever had I'd say. Staff are friendly, service is very good. Work across the road and they ran out of takeaway cups so let us borrow their best china! Try them, you won't be disappointed!
In many ways, Glutton & Glee is an old-fashioned British Tea Room with a modern coffee shop twist on the top. The bottom line is that it serves delicious cakes from the fantastic Butter & Cream Cakes which you can find on Guildford’s North Street Market as well as excellent coffee and so I’m told by my tea-drinking friends lovely tea. My approval in that direction stops at admiring the very fine teapots. It's emphasis is on local produce and support for local businesses. You can see the list of local suppliers on its website. In these days of multi national coffee chains I ran out of fingers counting the Starbucks, Costas and Neros in Guildford and wasn’t prepared to take my shoes and socks off to continue the exercise, it’s nice to see something firmly rooted in the local community.
Were out of the open sandwhich I wanted with two slices of bread, so at the till I was offered an direct alternative. This was brought to me but I was told I was only allowed one slice of bread - at no point was this made clear that I would be given half a sandwich. When I expressed my disappointment at this, the team made me feel very uncomfortable, were rude and very snappy at me and only said I could have the other half of my sandwhich if I paid more. Only when a third team member came out was I given a loose apology and eventually after much debating, was told I would not have to pay for this. Following this, the rest of the order was forgotten about and only came once I had to complain again. Absolutely horrendous service, so disappointing and the worst service I have experienced in many years.
....this is where I always go for a lively afternoon tea! Staff are v friendly. Food are nice. Excellent customer service x
Very tight, space is at a premium. Not disabled accessible due to age of building. Food excellent.
