I have two children currently attending the academies. One at Glenmoor and one at Winton. I can not fault the school. The school community is caring and compassionate of their students and extremely supportive of the family too. It offers a safe and fair environment in which my children can learn. The academies offer a wonderfully varied and diverse range of subjects. My children are happy and content at school. I genuinely believe that the staff always act in the best interests of my children. Yes the school has clear and firm guidelines regarding behaviour and uniform. As any good parent would hope this helps teach respect. The schools deal with any problems that do arise quickly and fairly. The senior leadership team are visible and approachable. My children are very different to one another and are treated as the individuals. They are encouraged to work hard and strive to reach their true potential. I looked at other schools in the area before making my decision to send my children to Glenmoor and Winton but it was, most definitely, the right choice.
My daughter is now in her third year at Glenmoor and couldn’t be happier. She is excelling academically and has had the opportunity to visit some of the country’s top universities to see what HE is all about.nnThe school has very higher expectations regarding behaviour, but I welcome this as it is something that is clearly lacking at other local schools.nnCommunication between the school and parents could be better, but I appreciate that’s not always easy in a large secondary school.nnI would have no hesitation in recommending the school to anyone.
When my girls were in year 5, I didn't even plan on looking around G&W as I had written it off due to previous bad reports. However something made us look anyway and we were extremely pleasantly surprised when we did. I work as a teacher trainer and what struck me most was that the staff were genuinely happy and there was a great atmosphere between them. G&W turned out to be the school furthest away from us, but it ended up being our first choice.nWe are now at the end of year 7 and have no regrets. No school is perfect, but the responsiveness of teachers to all queries/complaints has been great. The results have been fabulous and my children have found strengths they never knew they had. The school is big on sport and the arts which I hadn't expected and they have had some amazing opportunities over the last year. Academically, they see GCSEs as a 5 year journey and so do a lot of exams. At first I didn't like the idea, but now they have been through it I can see how confident they will be by the time they get to sit the real thing.nI would definitely recommend taking a look at what G&W have to offer when thinking about schools. The only downside? No sixth form :
My little cousin has recently enrolled at this school, due to being kicked out of Oak Academy. She was a very naughty student and gave up with school completely. However, Glenmoor has given her the opportunity to go to main stream school, due to their strict rules and uniform policies. The school is very secure and very strict on their uniform policy. Therefore, the school and the pupils within all look very smart and professional!
My daughter has just finished year 9 and I couldn't be more pleased with her progress. The teaching staff have encouraged and bought out the best in her in every way...both academically and socially. Excellent school, excited that younger sibling will be starting in September.
