Stopped in their take-away portion and I love that they offer that. Prices are higher to sit down in the restaurant. Fish was amazing and fresh. Some of the best fish and chips I've had. The chips were really nice too. Some other reviews say portions are small and that is shocking to me. Portions are HUGE and I'm and American! especially the large chips. I think it's a great, clean chippy to stop at during your stay in Oban.
We sat and ate in the restaurant. Paul was our friendly waiter and he provided a lovely service. The food was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed every morsel.
Moist flaky white fish. Scampies were good too. Take away as the restaurant was full. But good food none the less
Thank you, Colette and the other staff for the nice chat and the good food we enjoyed on the way back to Glasgow. Quick, friendly service; good fish & chips, tartar sauce, pie, beverages perfectly chilled - we were happy!Food: 5/5
Batter on cod was worst I,ve ever had. Very soggy. No crispness at all. A waste of a nice piece of cod. There are plenty other places that do much better. Don't waste your money or appetite. Ugghh!
While the portion of chips was large, they were soggy and greasy. The fish, a cod was battered but the batter was not crispy and 1 and half fillets. Since we are all aware there's two fillets on a fish, chip shops ripping of public at 1.5 fillets. The cost of a take away fish and chips, normal was £9.75, rather expensive for not great quality and cut back on the fish. That said, it filled a space. Having not had a fish supper for a while and really looking forward to enjoying it in the self professed "sea food capital of Scotland" it was very disappointing and I certainly wouldn't rush back.
Ate here twice in six days and it was absolutely superb on both occasions. The starter of langoustine salad was quite unbelievable for just £7.95 and the lemon sole and chips was to die for. Excellent quality and value.
I sat in to eat. Excellent fish supper "from next door" followed by a remarkable creme brulee which was more mousse than custard but delicious. Nice beer and friendly efficient service.
Dined in the restaurant, was told we couldn't access the upstairs seating. Very small space downstairs so wouldn't say it's accessible at all for families, wheelchairs or prams. Food was cooked to a high standard, tasty but very expensive compared to other places with budget options. Waitress who served us picked up our plates to clear the table without asking us if we were finished. She gave the impression she didnt like her job. Service was average, atmosphere was a bit uncomfortable, no sense of hospitality or engagement with customers.
This place has the best fish & chips I have tasted in a country that is considered to be the pinnacle of fish & chips anywhere. The takeaway part of this place is most recommended. Have yourself a fish supper outdoors overlooking the beautiful Oban bay. The batter is light, crispy and succulent. Outstanding. Even their take on the traditional haggis, battered and deep fried is a notch above others I have tried.
