If you have coeliac or gluten intolerance then this is the best place for fish and chips. It’s an old style fish and chip shop, nothing fancy. But very friendly service, and absolutely amazing fish and chips. According to my coeliac wife, best she ever had.
Overpriced, half of the fish stuck to the paper and was soggy and grey. The halloumi fried were small for £5, such a rip off.

Went in towards end of lunch break, they were happy to serve us, food was all cooked while we waited and had a couple of chips still crunchy in the middle but only a couple. Food was really good, nice balance of salt and vinegar as well, wasnt downing in it like some places do. Order was all correct and empty packets from all the family, very nice, thank you.
My last take away tonight . Love the gem restaurant but all the best restaurants have jumped on delivery band wagon, ie deliveroo etc. It really is too expensive now, I can't collect my orders cos I am disabled. So prices are well above me as a treat. Good luck to the gem and other takeaway places.
Very friendly staff, the portions were smaller, but perfectly reasonable considering the quality of the food. Will definitely visit again. in fact we visited twice! The menu has something for everyone, including an excellent gluten free selection as well as lots of unusual, but very welcome sides try the brie bites! Well worth it and certainly more affordable than some of the more "tourist oriented" fish bars near the town centre.
Ordered sausages and chips through deliveroo! FOUR 4 MINUTES after order was placed I rang to rectify my order wanted battered sausages rather than plain, at NO extra cost as plain and battered same price but was willing to pay if there was a difference to be told my food had already been cooked and that they were just waiting for my delivery driver and to change the order they would lose money on the food!!! 4 minutes, REALLY??? No way! They didnt cook and box up 3 lots of double sausage and chips in 4 minutes and replacing the plain for battered would increase time AND when said delivery driver delivered, I mentioned it 2 him to be told, he was SECONDS away from Gems when the order went in BUT still had to wait a few minutes for order to be ready! I am NOT knocking deliveroo as wow, amazingly fast delivery BUT to be blatantly LIED too on the phone after 4 minutes of order everyone knowing sausages are pre cooked and my order having NO salt and vinegar to ruin the sausages would not effect the plain taken out and battered put in is disgraceful, oh, and the curry sauce was sooo watery, and flavourless! Such a shame. But before owners respond saying it was my mess up, YES IT WAS but I rang within 4 minutes of order being placed to rectify my mess up, not 20 mins later where its understandable, 4 minutes, and then to be lied to on the phone saying order had been cooked and prepared awaiting delivery driver insinuating it had been cooked FRESH per order, silly lack of customer service springs to mind. When talking on phone about altering order I said fine ok to plain sausages as dont like conflict where as in reality I should have pointed out that 4 minutes was not enough time to 'mess them up' as freshly cooked sausages take longer than 4 minutes, let alone the chips! Just proved it's all 'pre cooked' and kept in warmers until sale, be it 10 mins after cooking or 6 hours! Damn

Best fish and chips we’ve had. The staff was so accommodating to our vegetarian dietary requirements halal.
